Sour Mash Esq.
I was at WT this week doing a barrel pick and Eddie told us the turkey bottles for Kentucky Spirit are going away in favor of a bottle similar to RR. Apparently the turkey bottles are sourced from overseas and they’ve had supply issues. Also the bottling line would run better with more conventional bottles. kind of makes me want to put one away, but I like to drink it too much I think.

I've thought about buying one to make into a decanter. Better hurry I guess.

The cynical side of me thinks it has more to do with cost per bottle than anything else

I like WTKS but the price has been increasing in my area and the RRSiB is a better value. Might have to tuck one sealed WTKS away, as opposed to the three open ones I have now. Looking on TTB but the site is less than user friendly. Edited February 22, 2018 by Mako254

They are owned by an international conglomerate after all.
GaryT
It is a really cool looking bottle, but I've always felt it was over-priced (in part because of the cool bottle). And of course now I want to buy one for the @#$% bottle

I too stayed away from a purchase due to price and my satisfaction with several other WT offerings. Now I too will buy one just for that @#$% bottle
Vosgar
If they make the change, it'll make this signed bottle a little more special to me

I think it's a fantastic bottle and believe they're making a mistake here. Even if they save money on the cheaper bottles, I have to think this would negatively effect their sales.
GaryT
So if this goes into the same bottle as the RRSB at a higher proof . . . I'm lost as to what the product really is? Just a lower proof RRSB? It isn't like it is a different mashbill, and I've never heard that they pull these from different places for some different profile (in fact, at a barrel pick I thought we were offered to have our selected barrel bottled as either KS or RRSB). Right now it is the same price as RRSB at the local Total Wine - but if they're in the same package; seems like they'd have to knock the price down quite a bit Or are there WTKS fans who'd pay the same price for the lower proof based on past experience? Jimmie (who is the Energizer Bunny of Master Distillers) won't be around for ever.... Or will he? Heck Eddie may retire before Jimmie... Nah. Or, maybe? Well WTKS predates RRSB by quite a few years and I would say the profile is different enough to be a seperate product the WTKS typically sits between RR10 and RRSB here price wise. BT/Saz/AI has 4 single barrel bourbons of similar spec and price range in ETL, HPR, Blantons and RHF, that has always seemed considerably more redundant to me.
Mako254
From a conversation with Jimmy and Eddie, the WTKS profile is more ‘jimmy’ and the RRSiB is more ‘eddie’. I enjoy WTKS but I agrew with those that have said it is over priced. Many barrels don’t stray far from 101 and cost twice as much. RRSiB on the other hand is a great value. Generally at least 9 yrs, NCF, and pretty close to cask strength.

Well.........I seem to have this problem of buying a lot more bottles than I drink so haven't gotten around to this one yet. Then again, I've got a few WTKS private selection bottles to get after as well, so it'll probably be a while
Sour Mash Esq.
I’ll chime in on the side of KS being different enough from RR to warrant its existence. I opened a nice bottle today in Fact.
Kane
For some reason I've always thought this was a very iconic WT bottle. When I started my bourbon journey and didn't know jack about the juice, I could still tell that this was something special. PaulO
KS vs. RB, KS is: single barrel, 101 proof, and supposedly 8 years old (but that's not on the label). RB is: a batch of barrels, higher proof and changed several times over the years, probably has some barrels of different ages. I think they're both great. The exceptional barrels get diverted to the KS and RRSiB program and are allowed to age a bit more.
Dom
Dang. This bottle was my jam - used to go through this stuff with my dad in my early 20's. Even had a few bottles going around at his funeral - one last drink with pops. Guess I need to stock up.
