Dang. This bottle was my jam - used to go through this stuff with my dad in my early 20's. Even had a few bottles going around at his funeral - one last drink with pops. Guess I need to stock up.

The whiskey is not going away, the bottle is just changing. No need to stock up unless you really love that bottle shape.

Oh the bottle is part of the memory and by "stock up" I mean maybe grab one or two.

I finally found a bottle of this, a store pick no less. Now that I have 1 in hand it's even prettier, and knowing it's going away makes me want to keep it unopened. I really want to drink it though! Decisions decisions.

1. Drink whiskey in pretty bottle.

2. When finished, buy same whiskey in new bottle.

3. Pour new whiskey into old pretty bottle.

4. Rinse, repeat for ever and ever.

Anything else I can help you with?

:D

Now explain to me how I am ranked "Taster" and you're "Novice"? I would like to recommend to@jbutler your promotion to "Bourbon Genius"!

My only worry is that the cork in the pretty bottle might degrade over time.

I read on SB that whisky corks are made from lower-quality material (wrt wine cork) with a life expectancy of a few years once the bottle is opened.  I've always been wary of corks with more than a couple years of use on them.  Thoughts on this?

WT corks are perhaps among the worst quality of the corks at that, as a bonus the bourbon is of the highest quality.

Hang on to the bottle and use it as a decanter. I used my fav WTKS bottle to start my infinity bottle.

Hmmmm, I don't remember ever having heard that.    I imagine the reverse would logically be more likely to be true.    I mean wine, once opened, is consumed very soon afterward, no?    Whereas whiskey may reasonably be expected to remain on a shelf after opening for many months; even years.     ...Not that this sort of logic would preclude your statement from being totally valid.

On the other hand wine actually 'ages' in it's bottle, so some number of bottles can be reasonably expeted to remain unopened  for many months, or years.    So, given that, maybe wine corx do need to be 'better'.

Jeeeeez, I'm confusing myself!

How 'bout we just stick to screw caps, eh?   HA!   :o

I'm with you, the Japanese distillers don't seem to be having any problem selling hooch with screw caps for premium prices!

No issues with the cork yet?

No.

WT is infamous for bad corks though. I opened a 05 101 and the cork broke in half. Opened a ‘00 and it was perfect. Give it a go. If the cork gives out after a few years, no biggie.

I am sad to see this bottle go away.

Planning on buying a few old bottles of a KS PS at one of my LLSs.
