Stranahans Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky

Just noticed this product had been released. Having a buddy pick it  up on a trip to Orlando. Anyone had this yet?

 

 Master Distiller Rob Dietrich developed Sherry Cask by taking his four year-aged Rocky Mountain Single Malt whiskey and transferred it to 500-liter Oloroso Sherry barrels to finish. The barrels are procured from the Andalusia region of southwestern Spain, known as the “Sherry Triangle.

Not sure I would have even noticed it since the bottle is basically identical to Diamond Peak. I was never really wowed by Stranahans and the prices are a bit high for my tastes but interested to see where opinions go on this one, Sherry barrels have an interesting way of bringing depth to young whiskeys when done right.

I hated stranahans the first time I tasted it, but the second time I loved it. My current open bottle is not the greatest but I am enjoying it. Also my buddy found it for $29.99 in Tampa. Sometimes Stranahans seems to have a notes of tequila imo but it's good mohave in my small rotation.  I'll be willing to give this new stuff a shot..will report back. BTW i've never had the diamond peak or snowflake.

I had the new Sherry cask earlier this week at a Stranahan's dinner with Rob Dietrich. We talked barrel sources and it sounds like he is using the real sherry barrels for it so that is a good thing. Surprisingly good although like most things it could use a bit more proof and it is a bit spendy.

I agree with you about the proof. The sherried expression was great at the "Cask Thief" event, but it was literally drawn directly from the cask.

At this point, we just are happy when he explains things in simple English, and not Mandarin, Farsi, Italian, Russian, German, or Egyptian Hieroglyphics...

The St. Paddy’s dissertation is supposed to be in the original Gaelic this year....
