I've been tempted to grab a 1.75 of JW Dant for $25, but haven't been back to the store where I found it. If nothing else it could be used for OF and Manhattans, maybe coke too.

I've got to add a new find, that isn't news for those in the know here at SB - Heaven Hill Green Label.  A friend brought me back a couple bottles from the 15th state recently.  It lives up to the excellent reputation.  I hesitated to share, for fear the distiller and LS's will find out, and start hiking the price....now that I think of it, its really not that great - pretty bad actually.  Stay away....;)

FWIW, I started buying this back in the late 2000's, when I was poor and didn't know anything about high end bourbon.  I just wanted something from KY that I couldn't get at home.

For $10-12 bucks, I literally can't think of a better bottle.

I live in an NYC apartment (with my girlfriend and over 100 bottles), so I have to be picky with the readily-available bourbon. Lately I just don't drink often enough to kill off bottles quick.

Once I get out of the city and into a home with a man cave, I plan to go crazy with good, cheap bottles.

I really like the Virgin 101, always pick up a couple bottles when traveling through NC.

Yep, me too.  Good stuff at a good proof that's cheap.

I'll have to keep my eye out for the price drop. $40 is the going rate for a handle by me.

Wow! I haven't seen any prices like that, but would love to.

We are very fortunate.  Whiskey prices are low in the Ozarks.

Yep, my "under the desk" bottle tends towards the bottom shelf usually. It's a guilty pleasure of mine I suppose. Currently I have a handle (though it doesn't have a handle) of Old Crow underneath. I'm a sucker for history--being tied to distilling history, and WWII ace "Bud Anderson" who I've met...I had to try OC. Lately I've had more EW or Jack Dan under the desk, which I guess are bottom shelf.

While I can absolutely appreciate some of the higher end bourbons, I am starting to try some of the lowest end stuff.  Some of it is pretty bad but some is better than expected and most is pretty good quality. There are many more I'd like to try that I can't get here such as cabin still or Ancient Age 90.  I realize these will likely be one dimensional and nothing exciting. I would also like to try mellow corn and I have seen it on websites in Kentucky for under $10. I draw the line when it has nuetral spirits.

Do do any of you occasionally shop the lower shef? What do you like?

I will drink AA90 when its on sale. Mellow corn is often 11 or 12$ here and its a good reliable sip too.

I rarely seek out KD or Cabin Still or most bottom shelfers but its often a bargain, I have a cheap handle of benchmark for guests who mix their drinks. Its not bad.

I either have too many things bunkered or find too much bourbon I like.

My bottom shelf is like EW BIB most of the time. I have some Old Crow in the closet.
