Bottled in Bond Day?

So I was mysteriously drawn to a couple of BiBs today - 1792 BiB earlier, and now Willett's own OB BiB.  Then read over on Reddit that today (3 March) is the anniversary of the signing of the BiB Act.  So has anyone else been enjoying a BiB on the anniversary of this historic occasion?

 I absolutely love bottled in bond. Now I am enjoying Evan Williams bottled in bond.

Same here, kinda weird isn't it? So far it's been VOB and HH. May have to splurge with some OGD next

Bought a HHBIB first thing this morning. Was for a friend. Glad I tried it though..great pour.

From those BIB I have tried , here is where I place them.

 

1. Henry McKenna

2. VOB NAS

3. HH6

4. EW

5. JTS

6. JWD

 

All are good. Most love JWD, but I found it just ok. 

 

Still looking for OF and Old Fitz. Gonna try Mellow Corn too.

I'm enjoying JW Dant tonight.  March 3, I'll have to remember that.  I consider myself pretty much a fan of all the bonded brands.

Cdcdguy - Rittenhouse Rye bottled in bond is worth checking out too.

OGD.  I have had it and it is very well-made. I just am not a rye person. Rittenhouse Rye. Have not tried it yet. Some say I may like it even though I don't like rye? 

 

 

Not by luck, I think all my top BIB are wheaters and all made by HH. Am I missing others?   Colonel Taylor makes one, but I'm sure it will be at a much higher price point. Also I think Tom Foolery makes one. I am still trying to find the Early Times bottled in bond . I have never seen it on the shelf. And that includes Kentucky. 

 

The only bourbon with a rye mash bill of 10% or more I really like is Old Ezra 7. I think it's 10%.

To any discussion of the current BIBs I'd have to add Early Times BIB.    I find it wonderful!   ...Not to mention a very nice value in those Liter bottles.

This was somewhat available around me all of last year and now it's gone. No mention of it on their website. Are you still able to find it?

Hmm, actually I have not sought it out in a few months, having a few new ones plus a mostly full open one on the shelf.     I'll hafta look next time at the LS.

Are you referring to this list:

1. Henry McKenna

2. VOB NAS

3. HH6

4. EW

5. JTS

I know next to nothing about #5 and #6, but none of the first four are wheaters, and #2 is not HH (it's Barton, owned by Sazerac, parent Co of BT).  The only wheat BiBs I can think of off the top of my head would be Old Fitz and RY10 (though it isn't marketed as such, I think it qualifies.)  Old Fitz is HH, and RY10 is sourced by Luxco (presumably from HH as welll).

Good catch - I'd forgotten about it.  I bought two, finished one, and put the other in the bunker.  It may stay there until I get a hankering for that taste of slightly scorched Wheatena hot cereal right off the stove.

Good to know. Maybe I like rye some and should open up my world more? 3,4,5,6 are all HH fore sure unless someone can correct me. Thanks for the info on Barton.

DN BIB is rather 'bland', I know.    Not deep or broad in it's nose or palate; but also no off-putting-tastes either. 

At 100-proof, I've had good success using it in blends (or vattings, if you prefer) to modify several that I've found too woody or sharp, without dropping the proof out of the desired range the way an 80-proofer would.    I haven't had a pour of it neat in several years, as I just find it kinda .....'meh'.
