0895
Alright, I figured it was time for a new one of these since spring is officially here. Recent bottle clearing activities have left vacancies in two of the ten 4R mashbill locations. I finally had time today to go grab (from the bunker) the next in line of these two recipes and open them up. The OESF smells like a million bucks, but no tastings tonight for me as my palate is tainted with bbq and beer. Low lighting situation and a 4 year old htc that had a "so-so" camera when it was new... Sometimes I'm just too lazy (or drunk ) to turn all the lights on in the evening for one bourbon picture. I put effort into the first pic and then realized some people might want to know the abv% of the bottles. New phone is in the 2018 budget.... If I can stop spending $ on brown water.
SouthsideRed
I asked him about this today...I always (incorrectly) assumed it was just an artistic decision on his part to make his pictures look like Prince took them.

BottledInBond
Opened a Woodford Double Double Oaked, which was a gift and I believe is only available at the distillery. I feel like I don’t like this as well as the regular WRDO for some reason. Is this stuff all off the pot still instead of blended with Old Forester juice like normal WR or something? I don’t know, but I don’t like it particularly

cdcdguy
We head to the bottom shelf this evening. I believe Kentucky only, and I didn't see it often. The cheapest bourbon I have ever purchased. 7.97 at Liquior Barn. Aged 36 months. Hmhh..... Not surprising, light flavor. Medium mouth feel. Decent flavor on the mid palette with short finish. Not bad. There are no unpleasant flavors coming through. Not remarkable at all. Still, for the money, I would choose this over Old Crow which is more expensive. If someone is looking for a decent super cheap bourbon that's drinkable, this is the one. Cabin Still, you are worth the 7.97 I spent on you. I had a HTC One for which all pictures were purple like that after awhile. I think the tiny lens cracked and there was some kind of prism effect on light before it got to any kind of sensors. It just gives your pictures some majesty :-)

bayouredd
Finally getting around to my taxes, soooooo, I decided to get some help and opened up my KC SiB 120. This is a maiden voyage for me and my first high proofer. I wasn't sure what to expect... Upon opening, I got a lot of Super Glue nose, but hey I like the Super Glue Smell. (and gasoline, diesel, etc.) I gave it 10 min breathing time & it toned down some, but was still the only nose I got. The first taste was... WOW! Heavy dark fruit, citrus, burnt chocolate & a bit of the glue. Very flavorful! It had absolutely no burn on the tongue; very surprising. Of course, the burn was all the way down the gullet to the stomach. I could drink this neat pretty easily. After my first ounce, I dropped a couple cubes in it & it was bursting with new flavors for about a minute. As the cube melted, it got quite bitter & I didn't really like the rest that way. So, I poured another half ounce neat & the loveliness returned. I can definitely see craving this at times...

Just like spring water is best used in a branch so goes the same with ice. I like ice with my bourbon also, but have learned to make my own from good bottled water.

Good to Know; I hadn't thought of it that way. I haven't had a problem using a splash from my filtered fridge spigot, which is the same filtering that the ice maker uses but, there you have it. The bitterness was definitely there...

I see you found an old label RR. I saw one the other day and was thinking of picking it up. You break into that yet?
FriendlyEdgar
The Hancock is very good... it's not Blanton's good, but then I haven't found many that are! I picked up a couple of bottles just because it is a BT distillery SiB and I don't regret it. The old label RR Single is reaaaaally good! Like almost Blanton's good (though obviously very different). I'm definitely going back for more! I got that and the old Chef's Collaboration (batch 2! I think they're in the mid-teens now!) at the same store, and the prices reflect how long they've been there, but right now the RR is the only one I need more of. We'll see how the Jefferson's grows on me Edited April 5, 2018 by FriendlyEdgar
