Won the Office Pool- need some suggestions on how to spend it

I won our office pool the the NCAA Championship! I thought it would be a good time to splurge on a bourbon I wouldn't normally buy. My general wheel house is sub $30 but I'm happy to go up to $100. Of course that could be 2 nice bottles around $50-60each.

I have a pretty new and pedestrian pallet. My favorites so far have been the lower end offings like EWBiB, Old Ezra 101, JB Distiller's Cut. I live in Texas so Blanton's, ETL and such aren't available. My list so far is:

Prichard's DBL Barrell $89

Widow Jane 10 yr $69

Joseph Magnus: $99

Woodford Reserve $69

Old Forester 1920 $49

Amador $39

All suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I’d recommend a couple store picks. Not sure what Russells Reserve single barrels or Four Roses private barrels run in your market, but I’d pick up one of each.

These aren't all at the high end of your price range, but usually $30 or more so you should also consider these if you haven't tried them: Knob Creek Single Barrel, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, Weller 12 (or Weller Antique since you are in Texas), Russell's Reserve Single Barrel, Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit, Four Roses Single Barrel...the list goes on.

Off your list I would def try the 1920.  For the other bottle I agree with the above and would probably lean towards a 4R Barrel Proof selection for bottle number 2.  My 2 cents.

Well, when I think of something special I think of something I wouldn’t normally buy like something higher priced and a good addition to my bar.

I’m thinking one high proofer and another around 100 proof.

I like the 1920 Old Forester prohibition at $49 or maybe suggest ECBP if it is available.

The 2nd bottle I’m thinking WTKS like lcpfratn suggested. I good looking bottle and something I wouldn’t normally pick up. If EHT small batch is available I would go with that. A solid BIB with a good looking tube that it comes in. That should put the grand total around $100. Good luck!

I just bought a 1920 last week and it is excellent.  There is a topic under "Specialty Bottlings" , if you want to read what SBers have said about it.  $49 is a great price.

That was my thought, also; but for the BIB, I was thinking CEHT SiB...

I have a regular bottle of Joseph Magnus. It's good, but not worth the price IMHO. I second the 1920 recommendation. Off the list, I would track down a barrel proof like Four Roses private selection, or Elijah Craig.

4R private selection or a WTKS as those beautiful bottles are being replaced soon.

Thanks y'all! It looks like OF 1920 has the most votes so far so that's definitely on my list. I already have a bottle of EHTSB. The WTKSBS sounds interesting.

OF1920 is a good choice. For the second bottle, if you like higher proof I would recommend Stagg Jr or a 4 roses single barrel PS barrel proof.

If you like rye, Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Rye and Pikesville are both great and shouldn't be hard to find.

If you like or haven't tried mgp you should seek out some belle meade or smooth ambler 9,10,11,12 single barrel

Try Wild Turkey Rare Breed.   You won't be sorry.

Also, if you can find one, the somewhat over-priced but delicious 1792 BIB is worth owning.

If you have yet to try a Jack Daniel's Barrel Proof, those are universally great.

Knob Creek SB (120-proof) is very good, and some private picks I've tasted are wonderful.

Good Luck!  :)

WT Russell's Reserve Single Barrel is my pick for sure, I would pass on everything on your list based on my preferences though if I was going to pick one to drink it would probably be the Widow Jane though I've also not had the Prichard's. I also will be a dissenting voice on the OF 1920, I'm actually having a pour from a botthe that I'm about half way through and I have never enjoyed it, the only Brown Forman Kentucky bourbon I have had that I enjoyed was a store pick Woodford Double Oak, if you like regular OF or Woodford it's probably a safer pick for you though.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I went a little different way and bought a bottle of Rittenhouse Rye to use in an Old Fashioned. My wife really loved it over the bourbons I was using.

Still considering the others mentioned. Thanks again! I'll keep y'all posted.
