Double Eagle Very Rare—-ER10 losing AS??

This isn’t one of my favorites but I know ER10 is a go to pour for many SBers. 

 

Is this a new offering or a NAS version that will replace ER10?

Hard to imagine this is a replacement for ER, it is also a terrible name and despite that will fly off the shelves the moment it hits them.

I thought i heard about a 20 year eagle rare that's coming out.  That could be where the double comes from.  I could be wrong ill try and find some info.

That's what I assumed when I read the name, but that seems really odd given the existence of ER17.  Is this a replacement I wonder?...

Odd that they wouldn't put the 20 years on the label.  Wonder if this will be more of a unique run with a different age each year.  Or a proper single barrel labeled like some store pick bottles are.

Hafta wonder how 'woody' a double-aged version of ER will be....

ER is pretty nicely balanced as it is at 10-years.    20-may make this another "Beaver Bourbon" (tip o' the cap to Josh). 

I'm sure, with the prevalent craving for age and special releases among the 'next-shiny-object' crowd; not to mention a "decanter", this will find plenty of folx willing to open up the ole wallet.

Also just noticed it's only 90 proof.  Is BTAC ER 17 also 90?  I know it is not barrel proof, but figured a premium expression would get some higher proof.

Not to be left behind Jimmy and Eddie Russell just announced Even Wilder More Turkiest the Rarest of Breeds, it will clock in at 202 proof and the back label says Aged Between 12-16 Years, it's a half barrel release, which for those of you keeping score is even more exclusive than a single barrel, it comes in a crystal decanter shaped like an authentic recreation of a biological archaeologist's rendition of the very turkey served on the first Thanksgiving. The other half of the barrel is rumored to have been sourced by Jefferson's and put on an authentic replica of the Mayflower and will set sail later this summer.

Now that the cat's out of the bag.... a couple of others and I found out about this back in mid April while at BT. I really wanted to post something here, but we were sworn to secrecy.  This was pretty much the first time I've ever heard about something before someone else did.  Kinda make me feel just a little bit impotent.  

 

The Double Eagle Rare is not meant to replace anything. It is a limited edition bottling. IIRC, tentative plans are to make it a yearly offering. I really didn't want to read too much into "tentative", but my take on it was that if it does well with this inaugural release, they'll keep doin' it. If it doesn't do well.........  Just sayin'.

It's an LE from BT.  I think it will do just fine!

 

Also..until today I never noticed that the E in the Eagle Rare logo was shaped like an eagle's head.  DOH!!!  How could I have never noticed that?

That might explain why the the ER17 was so TRUELY RARE in the 2017 release?

Could continue to be the toughest BTAC over the next few years?

Since the last time I saw ER17 was in a bar's locked case @ $35 an ounce (and, yeah, I had ONE, and it was almost worth it), I think I'll await what you all say about the ERDE.  Instead, I'll continue to pick up the stray WT MK 17/Decades/Revival I see @ MSRP $150 or so.  I won't mention the bunkered ER 10YR neck bands I have.

 

BTW, didn't one of you all post some months ago that ER17 was being held in a stainless steel tun?  OR, was that Saz 18?  Boy, howdy, it's a good thing I love the bottom shelf.  Can't get too confused down here.

Saz18 was definitely the same whiskey in stainless for a number of years up until 2015, the 2017 was the same as the 2016 held over in stainless again IIRC.

I've only ever had one ER17, and it was good bourbon but more oak than I'd prefer.  Outside of an exceptional private pick or two, not sure I've ever had a bourbon 20 yrs old that I thought "damn - they need to let more bourbon sit for 20 yrs!"  Although I imagine it will fly off the shelves (and if it makes those folks happy - good on BT!)

This is one time that I’m glad my palate is not sophisticated. I did a SBS of ER10 and ER17 from 2016 and while I could tell the difference it wasn’t enough to chase an LE over a commonly available $35 bottle. I’ll try the double rate if I see it, but won’t lay awake at night if I miss it.

I would say most people chasing all these LE’s would be right there with you. If people done more blind drinking they would have a little more money in the bank lol

I think if your shopping on value the LE's rarely stack up based on QPR but they are all unique and for people who have expendable cash and just value the different experience the cost can still be worthwhile. That being said most of my favorite bottles purely for enjoyment are readily available and priced comparatively well. I find that often I just need to scratch the itch once on the LE's but I'm too cheap to pay secondary prices so I only tend to do it if I find something at the low end of local retail pricing.

Still.... ER is 10 years old. Double that would be 20 years old. NAS????  I really don’t think so.
