kitzg
From today's news. Just-drinks.com is selling a report and this is their 'teaser:' Although the international whiskey market continues to be led by India, the global whiskey market now accounts for around 130million cases, easily the largest spirits category. As are producers in other sectors, the whiskey trade are trying to reach a younger audience, without losing their tradition. Scotch whisky is the largest of the whiskey sectors. There are two deluxe Scotch brands amounting to almost 7m cases and 17 standard Scotch whisky brands now selling in excess of 1m cases annually. tdelling
I don't know a lot about it, but apparently there used to besome incredibly huge import duties to be paid on whiskiesimported into India, and it was only just recently (in thelast few years) that these have started to come down.I've also heard that the ratio of shady imports to official importsinto India is about 3:1 becuase of the duties. The increasing popularity of whiskies and their sudden affordabilityare probably fueling a great deal of growth in that market.Tim Dellinger
