Looking for a good liquor store in Atlanta and Birmingham

A colleague and fellow bourbon lover is flying into Atalanta for work later this week and will then be driving on I-20 to Birmingham the next day.

Do you know of any good stores in either city or along the way that have good store picks?

I'm not asking for anyone to reveal their honey holes of course. Just good solid store picks if they exist - especially 4R Private Selections (because they are so dang expensive here in Seattle now).

In order, I generally trust the store picks from:

DeKalb Bottle Shop

Tower Package

Decatur Package

Green's

 

These are the more respected stores in the Midtown/Buckhead area where I work, and Decatur area where I live. If your colleague is staying in another part of town, let us know.

You won’t find anything in B’ham my friend...  They have state ran ABC stores & the selection & prices aren’t very good.  The package store prices are even worse, so if you find something worth buying, you get bent over at the register.

That's what I thought based on what I've heard here about Alabama in the past on these pages but it's been a while so thanks for confirming.

Ah, but Virgin Bourbon is available in Alabama.  Worthy of a pick up.

+1 on DeKalb Bottle Shop - spent a lot of money there last December! Great store picks (we know some of the "pickers") and prices.  Some "tough to find" stuff, too.

 

I also hit Mac's near my mid-town hotel near Tech.  Bought a couple of bottles of his MM Private Stock that went down waaaay too easy.

I forgot about Mac's! It's my go-to near work when I need something quick (gift, office happy hour, etc.), and they have decent prices, especially given their high rent location. I have never tried any of their picks, though... May have to remedy that situation.
