bourbonv
In todays Courier-Journal in the Sports section there is an advertsement from a marketing company looking for bourbon drinkers. They will pay $75.00 for 2 hours of your time for a bourbon tasting. I called they just took my name, phone numbers and email, but asked no questions about me being associated with distilleries. They said they will call me back in a couple of days. If you are interested the number is 454-0771.I don't know who is sponsoring this tasting. It could be any of the companies, but I suspect it may be Brown-Forman since they are working on a name for their new 4 grain bourbon.Mike Veach

cowdery
Gee, and who would think there would be a lot of people willing to be paid $75 to drink bourbon for two hours?
bobbyc
The thought of holding out for a better deal did cross my mind............What can I say, easy I guess!
brendaj
Hey Mike, Thanks for the heads up. I've been in Indy for several days, I came home and found this. I thought, cool! My kinda job... Know what really blows?? It's only for MEN !!! I am hurt... We drink Bourbon too... Bj
bobbyc
In that article I posted a link to some time ago about Brown-Forman and the wood for barrels. There is a mention that they put together tasting panels and anyone can apply. I haven't yet. Seems the growth is in sweet drinks to be favored by females. Also noted was some of it is done in a room with red light. They take your ability to see the color and that removes any preconcieved notion of what you might think the drink is supposed to taste like. bluesbassdad
It's only for MEN !!! Bj,That just isn't right. There's gotta be a lawyer in the vicinity who will take your case.Yours truly,Dave Morefield
gr8erdane
There's gotta be a lawyer in the vicinity who will take your case. Just look for the circling buzzards or listen for the sound of an ambulance siren. One won't be far away.
brendaj
Dave, Yeah, that crossed my mind... On the other hand, the BF lawyer's feathers are already ruffled and I might just be walking into a trap. I live right next-door to Barton's... . I appears they don't care what women think. What a shame, Bj
bluesbassdad
I sometimes share your sentiments -- until I or someone I value needs a lawyer. Then it's a completely different situation. When it's my ass on the line, I want Johnnie Cochran on my side. Yours truly, Dave Morefield
boone
Hey Dave When it's my ass on the line, I want Cliff, Chuck or Gary on my side Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh Bettye Jo
bluesbassdad
Betty Jo, My choice would depend upon the strength of my case. The weaker it is, the more likely I'd go with someone like Johnnie (not that I could afford him). An honest lawyer (and I count the gentlemen you mentioned in that number) is a luxury that only an innocent man can afford. jace33
What the hell is that. Only for men this is b.s.'. Women have the same tatsebuds men do,we like differnt things but come on it is a big joke right ?????
TNbourbon
First, a disclaimer: I think the no-women policy is silly, counterproductive and certainly impolitic. That said, now the Devil's Advocate part:This really isn't any different than, say, Augusta National Golf Club excluding women members. NOW can protest, but they have no standing to change it because Augusta is an entirely private institution. And the Constitution is a set of rules for the government's behavior, not private institutions' behavior. For example, it amazes me sometimes to realize how many people bandy about "First-Amendment rights" without realizing the First Amendement only applies to the government (as in, "Congress shall make no law..."). In my newspaper career, there were numerous times when an editor or publisher told me I could not or must write about this or that. Now, I could have cited "freedom of the press" and written what I wanted, but I would have found out quickly just who owned that particular 'free' press. On the other hand, I've had those same editors and publishers, in my defense, laugh in the face of some politico or government figure who didn't like what I'd written. "Congress shall make no law...", but private groups and companies can pretty much make their own rules.
brendaj
jace, Yepper, it's I think it's too. 'Course, I guess we don't really know what they are trying to accomplish. Whatever it is, it obviously doesn't involve women... Maybe they'll follow this survey with a similar one for women (ya, right... ). Tim is right... I would have found out quickly just who owned that particular 'free' press When in doubt, follow the money. Or, in Bourbonia... They who have the Bourbon, make the rules... In this case, I would dearly love to know who is behind this survey. So, I can quit drinking their Bourbon. Bj
Blackkeno
If I were local, I would OFFER a better deal. I'll do it for $50... would you believe $25, how about $10?...
bobbyc
Is the joke on us, or just me? Has any one heard back from these people? The lady said they had a heavy response but someone would contact me by the end of the week. I must have missed the call, but wait I have an answering machine, I guess it missed it too! pepcycle
I got a call, but I was in Florida and the 800 number was restricted to in-state. I tried again when I got back and they had all they needed. This is the second time I missed out on one of these. They had one in Lexington and the voice sounded familiar. I was traveling to NJ that week.
pepcycle
I just got through on the local number and the survey was conducted last week sometime. The person who answered the phone said, "Your in our database for future surveys of this type."

Peter_Pogue
File a bourbon tasting gender discrimination suit. After all, Bourbon drinkers should be a protected class.
