BottledInBond
Well, I just thought some of you might want to learn from a terrible mistake of mine. Or maybe just laugh at me? I have a “solera” decanter, which has been continually evolving in/out for about 6 years. Some mighty fine whiskey has flowed through it, many barrel picks, highly coveted LEs, etc. I often prefer a pour from it over many other regular bottles. Some of my friends that know what’s up reach for it as well when they visit, over plenty of other fancy options. Recently someone gave me a few bottles of whiskey. Long story. So last night I was watching football, and I went to pour myself a drink. I decided to drink from one of those bottles. While it was open, I decided to also add a little to my decanter. I sat down on the couch, and took a sip, and that glass did not contain whiskey at all. It appeared to be iced tea maybe? WTF? I had even just at that moment broken the seal on this bottle. So I was pretty confused/annoyed. But then, the panic set in. I had dumped some of this swill in my precious decanter...... So great. Looks like I am finally going to dump out the full contents of the decanter and start over. Learn from my mistake my friends. Try any dram before it potentially goes into any sort of solera or other blend you may have, or you may poison the well........
mross
Don't keep us in suspense, what was it?

I don’t know who did it so can’t really ask. Best guess was unsweetened iced tea but I wasn’t going to spend much extra time tasting random unknown liquid.

Not sure exactly who did it or why. Someone who wasn’t supposed to drink it and was trying to cover their tracks afterward? Someone just trying to play a joke on someone? I don’t really know. They did a good job of making it look normal though. And the enclosure seal was shrink wrapped plastic that seemed normal. Now am I going to be skeptical of every bottle someone hands me that I didn’t get directly from a retailer? Seems like an overreaction as this was some sort of strange individual incident. I just sure wish I would’ve tasted it before adding some to the decanter
mross
I am guessing someone gave him a bourbon bottle that had been re-purposed as an iced tea receptacle.
