What is the most expensive bottle that you own more than 3 of?

Ive been thinking about collections and bunker bottles. While there are a few high priced ones that I have, I thought I'd see what everyone has that not only was worth the investment,  but enough to grab 3 or more bottles.

For me, it would have to be Redwood Empire Haystack, a 13 year old, port finished MGP bourbon at cask strength.

Hmm, good topic ... for uniformity we have to stipulate MSRP.

For me quantity-wise I have the most WT Decades. But from a quality / personal favorite perspective that meets your criteria,  it would be GTS, THH, and CEHT BP.

Bourbon?  Pappy 20 year.

Whisk(e)y?  Hakushu 18 year.

Wine?  DRC La Tache.

Yea, I’ve got expensive tastes combined with a hoarder mentality.......?

JAM basic MHC batch 18.  One of them is opened.  BUT, I still meet the (at least) three threshold if I exclude it.

EDIT - Some purchased at MSRP and some at slightly less because of a discount at the checkout counter.

Not expensive at MSRP:  GTS & WLW.  Some multiples from the same year, more if you count different years.  But only 1 of each open at a time.   ?

Lots (!?!) of ECBPs & RRSiBs - again not cheap, but great tasting. And I have (need) Wellers - lots and lots of Wellers.   ?

Checking the trusty spreadsheet, I have at least three of several brands, but the one at highest MSRP would be PVW 20.

KY Owl rye

batch one

I still think that batch was underrated. And I think I still have 6 or so stashed?

Believe it or not, I really don’t have 3 bottles of anything too expensive. Two bottles, well maybe. ?

WLW-2 bottles of 2007, 1 bottle of 2018, 1 open bottle of 2017

Blanton’s-3 bottles
ORVW 10/107-2 old label/bottles and 2 new label/bottles

Binny’s Weller 12-3 bottles

Well, these aren't Bourbons or even whiskeys, but I do have some really rare vintage Armagnacs.

The oldest Armagnac in my collection is from 1893, followed by 1932, 1940, and then a bunch of vintage Armagnacs from the 1960's. I also have a number from the 1970's.

The oldest and rarest whiskey I have is a small sample of an 1886 rye that was probably distilled at the Frank L. Wight/Sherwood distillery in Baltimore, MD, followed by a sample of the original Jos. A. Magnus from 1892, then a Dewar's from around 1917. These whiskeys aren't purchases, but they're all still have a lot of value to me.

Cheers,

Nancy

Assuming we are talking about MSRP:

About 6 years ago I came across a WFE 23yr bourbon. At the time, retail was close to $300 as I recall. That's expensive by today's standards. It was a serious head scratcher back then. (Yes, I realize what double digit age stated WFE sells for now.)

These were located on the special shelf in the back of the store that you had to know about and ask to see. I bought one and took advantage of the store policy that if you bought three or more bottles of a spirit you got 10% off your order. A week later I went back and they still had 2 bottles. One was spoken for so they sold me the other. A week later the last one still hadn't sold so I asked about it. Still spoken for but I was told that the person had another week to grab it and if not it was mine. A week later it was still there so I snagged it.

I cringed with each purchase but also had the foresight to realize that I would never see anything like it again and that it would never be that price again.

About the same time I found another at a new store that had just opened. They had it listed at a higher price - enough to make me balk. I would realize later that this store includes tax on their listed price and you all know how crazy our tax is. So I missed out on that one. (That new store is the one that became my local that I now do all the barrel picks with.)

Are you asking about a specific release within a line or a line as a whole?

I have more than three GTS, Old Fitz BiB decanters, Four Roses LE SmB, and Wild Turkey Master's Keep (all at or above $100 average MSRP), but not more than three of any particular release. One recent LE (albeit one you could buy off the shelf here) that made me go back for more after tasting it was the 2019 Little Book. Bought one, tasted it, went back for two more. But usually anything north of $60 is not something you can buy more than one of here without serious effort or paying secondary prices.

I'd say good picks are the most likely candidate for stocking up.

How many of these do you have left? It is stories like this that make me think you regret the bourbon you don't buy more than the occasional disappointment you do buy. :)

I just finished the first one about 2 weeks ago and still have the other two.

I don't think I have more than 3 of anything.  Don't have a huge bunker and am ok with that.  I like to drink what I've got and maybe have a spare on hand.  Sure there are times when I might have wished to have a couple more bottles but I've never had a problem finding bourbon to purchase.

I’m sure I’ve had three bottles of EW BIB in my house at the same time before, but usually only two.

The only thing in my bar I have 3 of is Angostura bitters.

What if something wasn't expensive when you bought it, then became expensive.

I used to buy W 12 a couple bottles at a time near my work.  Price was well under $30.  I'd open one, stash one for later.  Well, I stashed more than one.  Then they became unavailable.
