You've got $20 and you have to buy a bottle of bourbon, and this is all that's on the shelf. Which bottle do you buy?

Too many hypothetical stores in the area. I may just have to open a store with better selections and put a hurting on their business.

Before yesterday, I would've went with RY100, but I purchased my first bottle of Ancient Ancient Age yesterday and it may be the best sub $20 I've had.

I've always heard great things about the the old 10Y version of AAA but the regular version of Ancient Age has had me too shell-shocked to ever bring myself to give the current 10-star AAA a fair shot.

Also, where are you in NC? A ton of great allocated stuff just went out to some of the ABC stores today.

I'm psyched to see Fighting Cock getting a little love in this one. I used to get it often back when it was first released but haven't tried it in ages. Seems to fly under the radar for most folks, but I remember it being pretty solid for what it is.

I seem to make this choice all the time and it would almost always end up being Dant.  EW BIB and FC get chosen pretty often though.  The Heaven Hill force seems to be strong in this house.

Here, we currently have plenty of WT 101 priced under $20.  At that price point, I don’t bother to look elsewhere.

I purposefully excluded 101 because it would be an obvious choice for most & kinda take the fun out of folks having to choose from things that may not be their first or even second choice under normal circumstances.

It's unfair to bring up the good old days.  10 yr AAA was fantastic value, incredible flavor cheap.  The current 10 whatever it is not bad, cheap, compare it to other bottom shelfers and see what you think.  Tonight I'm going EC18 to WT101 to blantons to Mckenna 10yr to ECBP and heading to AAA and Barton.  I'll let ya know how AAA stacks up when get there.

FC for me just because I’m fond of the old 6yr age stated version. Reminded me that I hadn’t had a pour of the old 6yr FC in awhile, so decided to go have a pour and remedy that problem. EW BIB would also be a strong contender for me.

AAA since I've never ever seen it here in NoCal.  If I had $60, I would have also walked out with RY100 and JTS Brown since I've never seen them either.  But for the win, EW BiB is one I have a case of stashed away at under $11/750.

I voted for Fighting Cock, but this is the first one where I may walk out empty handed.  Stores like these are the reason I tend to bring my own bourbon on vacations/trips.

Can't go wrong with this one...if you like oily corn forward goodness.

I drink Mellow Corn every once in a while.  Never tried it from the freezer.  I am liking that idea.  Need to make room in the freezer.

That's the only way I drink  it.  It's good with ginger ale, or ginger beer.

I'm in Brunswick County (below Wilmington). I'm with you...I refused to try the AAA after comparing the standard AA to the last drink out of a glass of Bourbon on the rocks (and I'm talking watery restaurant ice). Glad I did. It drinks way above its price and age. I'll keep an eye out. I'm on the email list at my local store, but they've been exceedingly quiet since the pandemic began. Where are you?

I have a buddy who now lives in Wilmington who swears by AAA. Maybe I need to just get over my personal hangups and finally give it a go.

I'm living in Durham after about 25 years in Carrboro & I still work in Chapel Hill. Stores around here have been pretty active for the most part. There was a 200+ case shipment of Stagg Jr. that showed up on the NC ABC warehouse inventory site the other day, as well as about 25 cases of EHTBP & 8 cases of ETL... but sadly none of those made it to this part of the state.

Got to remember JW Dant is 1 Litre bottle of bonded goodness.

I believe that depends on the market. In STL I've only seen it in 1.75L and 750ml.
