What Bourbon Are You Drinking Today (Fall 2020)

Having a bit of  blantons tonight. As I said before, this bottle is much better than the last one.   Bad day, puppy got me up at 4 am and my knee has been screaming at me all day. Who would have thought that hat just sitting in a chair would hurt.

I mixed two parts Benchmark with one part 1910 and wow!  This was not bad at all!  The Benchmark softens the rough edges of the 1910 and the intense flavors of the 1910 fill out the blandness of the Benchmark.  The blend is a nice, flavorful sipper which is interesting because it's only 3 or 4 proof points higher than the 80 proof Benchmark.  I'll have to pick up a 1920 (which I like a lot) and try a 1915 blend I guess.

I concur on OF1910.  It tastes like a sugary cola.  I ended up blending it 1:1 with OF1920 which was pretty good.  I bought a second bottle about a year later and found the same sweetness.  I ended up blending a portion of the bottle with OF1920 before gifting a decent portion of both OF1910 and OF1920 to a friend who had tried neither.  I told him to try a nice pour of both separately and then to try a nice pour of the blend.

I gotta try this.  I really like 1920 and I can't see how 1910 wouldn't just pull it down.  But I've heard so many good things about this blend that I have to try 1915 for myself.

Last few pours. I like the LBP C920 better than A120 but it has a funk note that I can’t really describe other than that. It’s not quite peanuts but almost.

Opened my last infamous Stagg Jr. no. 1. Not really the hot mess that it was generally depicted as ?. A drop of H2O helps it, I think.

 

Waiting in the wings is batch no. 3. WTH.

Okay, now I have moved on to batch no. 3. Frankly, they all taste about the same to me. Not a bad thing, per se. Just saying.

just picked up new release EC18.  Flavor wasn't as expected so doing comparisons with an old EC21 that I was familiar with, and EC12 (pre-fire?), and ECBP for fun.  My buds re off because only the EC12 is as expected.  I'll try again tomorrow, and the next day, ...

Oooooooffffff........got a text message from my wife at 5:15 saying that the basement toilet had a leak and that we had a water problem. Raced home to see that the hallway carpet was soaked and that it seeped into the wine storage room. That room has concrete floors but we had a bunch of wine in cardboard boxes that had not yet been transferred to newly installed wine racks. One and a half hours later the carpet is up drying (really need to get rid of it), wine room has been shop vacced, wine has been transferred, boxes in recycling, fans now blowing to dry things out.

The RR10yr I poured right after that was sorely needed. Now that I have dinner in the belly I'm onto the ECBP A120. 

Boy do I need it.

Some KC120 PS with a strip steak dinner. Off today for the holiday (thanks to all you veterans for your service!) and took the rest of the week off as well.

What pairs with cheesecake dessert?

Had TOO much WT 101 KSBW following a LONG day having med pics (xRay. MRI. etc)  taken so had to reallyreally restrain myself from making some off-color remark about this pic.  Was one of the FEW times overindulging worked to my advantage -- I have  NO FUDGING IDEA what "clever", off-color remark I was going to make.

 

BUT!! Trust me - you'd have all spit out your bourbon!!

Oh, yeah!  What I drinking?  Well, before dinner, we had 1 Oz gin to 1/2 oz  dry vermouth martinis with Trader Joes dindin of something microwavable (I forget what) with Minute Rice and homemade carrot cake cupcakes for dessert.  I am following THAT up with WT 101 KSBW.

 

Like Towelee on South Park, I have no idea what's going on.  Pretty sure there's some show on the TV.  Not sure what it is, though.

Ive been there. Had a good bottle of ec once. Woke up several hours later with over half missing and a killer headache.

While not a bourbon or a distilled spirit, I suggest oporto or something similar.  Warre's Otima 10 year tawny is rich. sophisticated, and suitable for serving to (potential?) in-laws you don't know well.  For scotch and bourbon drinkers, though, I'd serve Whiskers Blake 10 Year Tawny produced by Hardy Wines of Australia.

Ended up just being more KC120. We even opted for no red wine with dinner as Mrs. Clueby is diabetic and wine, or any liquid with a high sugar content, tends to spike blood sugar. Interestingly bourbon mostly seems to have the opposite effect. I've done some reading on the subject and it seems to be related to the way the body metabolizes the bourbon vs. how it does something with a direct sugar content.

Revisiting an old friend, WTMK 17yr. This is the one that spent part of its life in the Old Crow stone rickhouses in a valley. Because of the cool conditions the barrels lost proof over the years so this is barrel proof at 86.8. I wasn't as mature in my whiskey journey back when this came out so I downplayed it because of the proof. Should have bought more!

I've sampled maybe 20 different bottles past 2 weeks doing taste comparisons.  I've not been Dickel fan.  Would drink it but not jump for it.  Of course I bought 9 year and 14 year when they 1st hit shelves, liked them well enough but not excited.  When making recent purchase guy ahead of me had Dickel Barrel Select and I'm easily influenced so bought one, too.  Tonight was planning more EC tests but opted instead for the Dickel.  1st glass as expected, vitamin let down with resolve to either suffer through it or let bottle sit in larder for 15 years.  2nd glass, wow, astounded.  3rd glass, I'll pass on pappy 20 to get 4th glass of this.
