Weller in Arkansas

New to the forum from VA.

I am going to be driving from Little Rock, AR back to VA before Thanksgiving and am looking for some advice on where I might be able to pickup some Weller during my travels. I will be hunting around Arkansas and spending the night outside of Bowling Green, Kentucky on my way back. A year ago my sister who I am visiting said the shelves were fully stocked with Weller but now she cannot find it. Any thoughts on where I can get some or is it a pipe dream?

Thanks in advance.

WSR is the only one that's made regular appearances on shelves, it comes and goes, but when it shows up it tends to last at least a little while  - plenty enough that it doesn't all walk off in a matter of hours, or (usually) not get jacked up to outrageous prices.  A few crooks might have a 12yr or something else up behind the counter with a triple digit price tag.  Some others sit LE/Limited Distro aside and hold drawings between T-giving & X-mas for MSRP.  That's how I got a bottle of 12yr last year.

You might also try some shops around Memphis, there are a handful that aren't too far off 40, and a few more that are.

Welcome to SB.  I have no specific advice.  BUT, I have driven over the Appalachians many times over the years to and from VA via I64/I81, and thanks to the internet, my most recent trips included stops at "liquor stores near . . . ." with my inserting the towns along the interstates I'd be traveling.   For your route, I'd suggest Little Rock to Nashville then go NORTH into Kentucky on I65.  At Bowling Green, KY, pick up I75 toward Lexington, KY where you get on I64 into Virginia through WVa through Staunton VA.  That route will take you within ten miles of about 45 KY liquor stores, but it's been a few years since I made that run.  BUT, lots of stores that pop up on "liquor stores near X" now have websites, and some of them have searchable inventories.  Stores near Lexington are especially well stocked IIRC.   Staying in Tennessee on I40 and connecting with I81 through Bristol VA means you cannot check out KY stores for Weller or for lots of stuff like HH 7yr 100 not available outside KY.

Isure hope this helps.

Keep us posted on your adventure.

Thanks for the advice, WSR would be a gold mine for me as it is impossible to find anywhere near VA. Last Christmas she texted me a picture of shelves stocked at msrp which had me drooling!

Thank you for the advice, yes that is a great thought to take the route through KY and looking up some stores with searchable inventories. That is something I tried in Little Rock with not great success.

Another thing I meant to ask is a request for any other bourbon recommendations outside of WSR that I should look for that I couldn't find in VA, like the HH 7 YR.

Tell your sister  to swing by BG Liquor (across from WKU Ag Center).  They had a 750 in the case and two 1.75 up high.  I don’t know what they are asking for them.

Given the current state of the bourbon/spirts industry, it's all one big crap shoot. Ya' roll the dice, and hope for the best. Just remember, the odds normally favor the house. Just sayin'. ?

Any thing else you recommend I pickup while in Kentucky?

Harry, your directions might need a little help.  To get to Lexington he would need to stay on I 65 until he gets to Elizabethtown and then take the Bluegrass Parkway (Exit 93) to Lexington and then hit I 64/I 75 there.  No need to stop in E'town.  If there is any WSR in town it's still on the shelves because it's way overpriced.

THX.  Going on memory from a road trip several years back.  From Richmond, we drove to Lexington then went west to Louisville and North past Indianapolis to Champaign Urbana and the U of Ill.  Wife laughed when I told her what I'd typed - "You clearly are NOT from the Midwest."

You had probably consumed too much "brown water" and therefore your memory was affected.  All is forgiven.

Grab a couple bottles of the 6 year old green label Heaven Hill. Pretty much only available in Kentucky. A very solid "cheap" bourbon. Usually runs from $12 to $15.

i know i got one at Busters for $26 (i had to ask), and i think it was joe's that had them on the shelf for around $30. Tulsa and OKC had tons in all 3 sizes, but I now see that you are not going through tulsa and OKC. I struck out mostly for anything in AR
