Try vatting it 50:50 with standard BT you may find the sum exceeds the parts. I first heard of that from Steve, tried it and never looked back.

My original blend used Old Charter 8 - the 80 proof NAS newer product. I had bought that online as it's not sold locally. After I finished that bottle I switched to BT and it's even better. Like mentioned above I've also done this with ER10 which is great.

i passed on SJ for awhile after a bottle of an earlier release which seemed like not much more than heat. but i found batch 13 & 14 were good, & awaiting 15 to hit my area.

It's very interesting to me that SJ is so popular on this forum, and quite dumfounding that there would be a lottery for it of all things.  Every iteration I've ever tasted was akin to setting my throat on fire, and the taste was so overwhelmed by the alcohol content and the unpleasantness of consuming it that it became irrelevant. I guess from the outside it might seem like a BTAC Stagg on a budget, but for me the only variables the two have in common  is the name and proofness (is that a word? maybe proofity?). I've passed on it so often my liquor store won't bother to offer it to me any more. I might have to give it another try at a bar to see if my palette has somehow evolved to reconsider it, but I doubt it.

How long ago did you try it? I’ve heard the early batches were a hot mess but gradually improved. I’ve only tasted from batch 8 and beyond.

I'm going to say the last bottle I bought was three years ago, maybe four.

Do you try adding water?

If not that, proof it down with BT or ER10. Delicious.
