I find if Mountain Dew spends too much time in plastic, it develops an unpleasant bitter taste.  This is a hard pass for me.  😉

The neck pour is never any good either 🤨

Carbonation is the first thing to go from the plastic soft drink bottles.  Plastic is semi permeable when it comes to gas.  The worst are the 2L bottles.  Some of those are about half flat even when first opened.  👎

I never store my soda bottles on their side.  😀  I actually treat my soda bottles better than wine bottles because I f..king hate wine. 😀  I have had guests say "something seems off about this wine."  I always say "because it's f..king wine. Now if you want to talk bourbon we can interact, otherwise stay in your lane." They know me. They know my passion for bourbon. They know my disdain for wine.  They know the conversation is over.  Essentially, they know...this dude is a cheap bastard, he loves whiskey and freely shares, he considers wine to be acceptable but don't push it, there is beer if you like neither, don't piss in the bushes in the front yard because the neighbors might think it is him. 😀

But seriously, if I'm buying any soft drinks nowadays, it will be cans.  Back in the day, we had those 16oz. glass returnable bottles and real cane sugar.  Now that was the best as far as soda pop goes.

Uh-Huh!   Grape Nehi!   ...Or Orange Crush.   ...With a box of Cracker Jack or a bag of chips.   Kidz Nirvana!

And, when the bottle top inside liner was made of cork!

The thrill of hearing the door latch click open after dropping in your 15 cents.  Opening the door and hesitating even though you wanted the Coke, but all those choices were there right in front of you for the taking.  You grab the bottle with a death grip so you couldn’t lose it, and pull it out of its silo and watch it begin to steam in the humid air.  Pop the top on the machines opener, and listen to the top ping down upon all the other caps in there.  Look at the bottle for a second or two, then chug down the absolute coldest Coke you will EVER drink.  I don’t know what it was, but the Cokes from these machines seemed below freezing but weren’t frozen...🤪

Whiskey's impact increases with age.  So drink wisely, my friends!

HA! 🤣  After being retired for so long, I'd almost forgotten about those (admittedly few in my later years) days when a 'decision' was warranted about attending my  paid position, or finding an excuse for not doing so. 😜

...Another thing I don't miss about my former regular employment. 🤩😊

Exactly. While in a paid position I would always have that Sunday evening anxiety about Monday. Retired on a Thursday and figured I would wake up Friday and plan the rest of my retirement life.  Woke up,  had a beer and decided to play it by ear. Jump to Tuesday, woke up and asked what day it was and I knew my plan was working.

You guys are suddenly making me wish I was OLDER! :P

Although every Sunday evening before bed is a soak in the hot tub with a glass of bourbon.  I call it my "Sunday Night Ritual". It eases those Monday morning anxiety thoughts.

I understand, I suppose.   ...But, I'll offer the same advice my wise old Grandpa H offered me when I told him I wished I was two years older so I could buy and drink alcoholic beverages.

He said not to foolishly wish my life away, and that all things would come in due course and I might miss something really important if I jumped ahead two years.

Good advice back then (almost 20-years ago now 😜) and I think probably still pretty good advice.

blutarsky.jpg

This was taken at a "Ready to Drink" tasting last Saturday in Julio's - I was working a table of Jack & Coke (and Coke Zero and Ginger Ale) as well as Zing Zang cocktails (Margartias, Mango Margaritas, Bloody Marys and Hot & Spicy Marys).  🥰

Can somebody photoshop a bottle of Jack into my hand, please?  That was the booze that Bluto snatched from a crate as the Delta house was being kicked off campus.  It would make a great meme for the elections coming up in November . . . .  🥳
