 I recently won a bottle of this in a lottery . I posted this in another thread but have not heard much back. I hear /read nothing but amazing things . Has anyone here had a chance to try this ? Thoughts ?

 Only 1200 bottles produced a year by Sazerac. If you google it you will find its not unknown that's for sure but it is rare ...more so than other BTAC even. So yeah its a great bottle for lottery.

Just to add it is on Sazerac's website for anyone that has never heard of it. I just thought more people may have heard of this one. It's a Unicorn for sure.

I Had the opportunity to buy one a few years ago but left it on the shelf. From what I remember it’s Canadian juice. A few years ago it was Canadian juice, don’t know what’s in the bottle now.

Didn’t you say it was $350? I think most people around these parts would pass given that alone. High cost and limited information regarding provenance. Yikes

OK - found it. Thanks for the info.

Looks like a blend of Canadian and American whiskies with no age statement. Barrel proof is nice but with a lack of any other information most of us here would have a hard time paying $250 US for it.

Not a lot of reviews out there but I found some commentary on reddit which said it was just OK.

Okay hey fair enough . I'm a bit surprised you didn't find many reviews as I found several and without exception they all raved about it. As in the best whisky they have ever tasted  raved. But I have not received the bottle yet so time will tell. I will share my opinion once I taste . I get the NAS thing but honestly I don't find always strong links between age and taste personally. I think the price although high is reasonable for the limited quantity and again for what I hear as been exceptional whisky .  Stay tuned !

It was $350 Canadian . I'm up here in Canada.  Exchange /taxes it's what we would expect to pay for a $250 USD .  For a very limited release the price doesn't sway me personally . When I see what some on this board pay for whisky , they seem to justify the price . I understand that's personal .  Again I don't know personally how it tastes but I hear nothing but amazing things and I do know a few people who have it and say the same . The lottery was BTAC , this one and a scotch . I've never won in the 12 times I've entered so when I won this I gladly accepted. I highly doubt I'll be disappointed but if I am I'll own up to it and share.  Cheers !

To be fair I wasn't searching for reviews, only information on the product. I have fixed that and now see the reviews you are talking about. Sounds like it is a very good whiskey.

You are correct that age does not necessarily correlate to quality but when you are being asked to pay $250 for a mystery whiskey you want as much information possible to make that decision. An age statement provides you with a set of expectations. We've seen far too many age statements disappear over the years with a subsequent drop in quality of what's in the bottle. The proliferation of the NDP market has brought us a lot of non age stated bourbons that we took chances on only to taste the grainy notes of a whiskey that is too young. So us old timers don't take these chances any more because we already have bunker clunkers that we don't know what to do with. For newcomers to bourbon who have missed out on all the great whiskey we have in our bunkers I understand the desire to take the chance on bottles like this. All of us were new once and did the same. Sounds like you have a good one in this case so I look forward to your thoughts when you get it.

Conspiracy theory time. Maybe the barrels that were originally destined for Stagg Sr ended up in Mr. Sam at a higher price point.  Makes you think.

It was blended in Montreal so I doubt it ....I think the juice is possibly better than Stagg Jr. But who knows .

I appreciate your perspective and experience . I'm new compared to some of the old-timers here  but don't consider myself a newcomer to bourbon at all but am willing to take some chances sometimes when I feel the risk vs reward may be in my favour. I promise to report back my experience once I taste.  I do know some older more experienced whisky guys that absolutely love this one and feel its better than anything they have had from BTAC so that's maybe promising ? Again thank you . Cheers .

I have an acquaintance who has an impressive collection and has more WFE purple tops than anyone should have.  He said this was in the top 2 for best 2021 release this year.  I didn't know what it was at the time either, but after my research, all I can say is congrats on getting one!

I saw a couple of bottles for sale in the current Unicorn  AuctionsSite. Located out of Chicago.  The Auction ends Sunday July 31st. Very limited. Highly sought after. I though prices estimates were around $1100. Limited Buffalo Trace Release. You can check the final selling price. Assuming any reserve was meet. I was not aware of this bottling until I saw it listed this week. Good Luck. Creggor

I have been able to enjoy my bottle thus far. Really outstanding in my opinion.
