Forgot to post this but just got into the motherland today and staying in Louisville until Sunday for a work/Bourbon Trail trip.

Starting Thursday, will be doing informal tours of Woodford and Buffalo Trace (I.e. just checking out the gift shops).

Friday will be doing tasting at Heaven Hill follows by lunch at Willett and a tour of Castle and Key.

Saturday is Jim Beam and Maker’s Mark to check on my barrel.

Will post pics along the way, appreciate any pro tips or good liquor stores aside from my usual haunts.

Also, if I can haul anything back for any of our growing yinzer community, shoot me a PM.

Thanks,

There is a great speakeasy down by Whiskey Row called Hell or Highwater. Worth a visit. Reservation required.

Pro tip: If your itinerary is pretty much set, keep an eye on your watch. It’s very easy to get distracted at distilleries and their gift shops. You’re having a good time, and suddenly you realize you have a half an hour to get to your next tour, and the distillery is on the other side of the county. 🙄 I will neither confirm nor deny if that’s happened to me before. 🫣

Anyway  @PhantomLamb , hope you have a great time, and find some nice goodies. 😁

Yep we tried to reserve but couldn’t get in. Next time hopefully.

Started last night at hotel, they had ORVW 10yr, was delightful.

Stopped at Kentucky Peerless coming back across the bridge from Indiana and I was appalled.

$80 for their rye or bourbon and $140 for double barrel rye and some god-forsaken bourbon bottled cocktail. Seriously?

I was on the Peerless bandwagon but consider me off now. Still want them to succeed but robbery is another thing…will not be back.

Hoping for better things from Old Forester and Evan Williams Experience gift shops tomorrow.

$80 is actually about $50 cheaper than the price of their first release, so they’re at least moving in the right direction.

Let’s hope the trend continues.

Well I don't know anything about Peerless but as a general rule you can't judge a distillery by the price of their bottles at their on-site gift shop.  Typically, they purposely price their own products higher than retail stores so they don't undercut their own retail shops.   I haven't been to the motherland in a few years now, but I assume that will still be the case.   To cite one example I could always get ECBP cheaper back home than at the HH gift shop.

Roger that.  I'll probably revisit them in a few years, I do like the sweet mash concept and wish them the best.

I thought it was Booker at first too, but the plaque said Beam I believe.  Either way, I love them both.
