A buddy and I are embarking on a two day trip to Springfield, IL from Pittsburgh early tomorrow morning.  Our route will take us by Columbus and Indianapolis.  We'll be staying overnight in Springfield and it looks like there is a Binny;s about 5 mins from our destination.  If anyone could recommend any special stores that I shoul seek out en route or in Springfield proper.   Thanks in advance for the 'guidance."

Binny’s in Springfield is fine.

I stop there sometimes while traveling for work.

Get a Portillo’s (Chicago Chain) hot dog while you’re in Springfield.

D’arcy’s Pint is also a good local Springfield restaurant for dinner/drinks, especially if you’re looking to try one of those “horseshoes” that Springfield is famous? For.

Binny's website is pretty accurate if you want to do some research on the way. They'll have lots of barrel picks.

Make sure to check the customer service counter, as they put out semi-hard to get stuff at the counter with a one-per-customer limit, which doesn't go always get logged into the website inventory. I've noticed these bottles are put out as they come in, usually in small quantities - things of interest I've seen recently is Bookers, Henry McKenna 10, ER10, HHBiB, Blanton's. This is very hit or miss. Don't be shy, ask the Manager if they got anything in that day they haven't put out yet.

Also look at the Rare and Collectibles room/cabinet as they'll also put some more expensive small allocation, but fast moving, bottles in there that dont necessarily go into the website inventory right away.

Can't comment on any other LS on the way.

Good luck & safe travels

I assume you are traveling through on I-70.  If you care to venture around to the northside of Indy, I would suggest Vine & Table in Carmel.  Also, fairly close is West Clay Liguor and Spirits.  Also, in the area is Crown Liquors on Main Street in Carmel.  All have unique offerings and store picks.  Of course, you will need to swing around I-465 and a little out of the way off of I-70.

You can google them to see if you feel it is worth the side trip.  I believe Vine & Table and West Clay are.

Another store worth a check is Dave's Wine and Spirits in Whitestown/Zionsville.

Thanks for the tips.  We did travel 70/74/72 to Springfield.   Had a detour in Indy before we hit 74 and it took us thru a retail area so stopped at a small store named Liqours Unlimited, I believe.  Bought a Woodinville and a Chattanooga Cask Strength.  In Springfield, we topped at the Binny's which was real sensory overload.  Grabbed a Mellow Corn (for the novelty factor), a Russells Rye and Heavens Door SIngle Bareel  (both were on sale for $10 off) and a Stellum and a cask strength Barrell (both bourbons).   We were on a tight schedule and I was trying to moderate the purchasing as I could have easily spent several hundred more on product not sold in PA.    SO far, the Chattanooga is quite good with lots of flavor

Glad you at least found a few things. Was the detour in Indy on I-465 on the south side? 😉

Hey Joe, there is construction and some closures currently on 465.  Can you believe it.

A little less than a week ago I was headed north on I-65 and google maps took me off the interstate just before Lucas Oil Stadium. We passed the stadium on our right, drive another quarter mile, and re-entered the highway. Still scratching my head.

Some of that Hoosier road engineering at its finest.  You would hope that tearing up the main interstate intersection in Indiana ( i.e I-65 and I-70) would be better organized:{

At least we are close to Kentucky;}

Born and raised in Indy/Beech Grove. I remember when I-465 was being built. Before it was open, me and my buddies used to ride our bikes from the Beech Grove/Emerson Avenue Exit to S.East Street/US 31. We also used to drive go karts on a 10 mile stretch of   I-65 south of Southport Road. It was good to have a friend whose dad worked for the highway department. 😉

I remember when I-65 stopped at Keystone Avenue heading north.  I was too young to remember when I-465 was built but I do recall later learning how the interstate literally split communities in the area,, especially church congregations and schools.  There are still some oddities.  For example, if heading east, you can exit onto Mann Road but not re-enter.  The same with heading west, you can exit onto Mann Road but cannot re-enter.

Sorry, significant thread drift.

On topic, I believe there is a Liquor Unlimited on north HS just off I-74.  This must be the store you visited.  I haven't been there in years.  There are actually a few pretty good stores close by.  One in downtown Speedway, one at Eagle Creek.
