Nice metaphor 🏈 😃

Let me be clear, though, that 11-year old is a pretty darn good middle school-ready quarterback!  (especially for $21)

Had a HH17/18/20 tasting, an ECBP "pirate bottle" sbsbs, and Al made an appearnce at the end.

Nothing special tonight just Elijah Craig NAS. I hadn't had it in awhile and Costco had it cheap so I picked up a bottle. It is good for a low to mid $20s bourbon which is what I paid. However,  it is normally around $30 in my area. That's why I usually opt for KC9, WT101 or OF100.

How did they stack up?  And what's that 85th Anniversary bottle?  Maybe I missed that one.

I had these bottles that I never got around to opening, but today was the day.  All are believed to be Barton distillate (the 1792 definitely is) so I thought I'd do a little casual SBS.  I don't currently own a Calumet 15, so granted it's the glaring omission in this lineup.

My ranking:

Nose: C16, 1792, C14

Palate:  C16, C14, 1792

Finish:  C16, C14, 1792

Overall:  C16 in a landslide, C14, 1792

At 106 proof, the C16 has a 10 point advantage over the C14 (96.2) and the 1792 12 yr (96.6) but that doesn't explain the results fully.  The extra oak note in the Calumet 16 combine with the cherry bomb notes to provide more depth of flavor that the other two bottles just can't match.  The C16 just offers another level of complexity that wins out.  Maybe I'll look for a Calumet 15 to compare these to.

The 85th anniversary is a 13 year old released in 2021. It's in a wood box similar to (or maybe the same as) HH27. That one isn't open. Between the 17 and 18..18 was way better.  The 20 year corn has gotten a lot better with some air. It's different obviously but I like it more than the 17 and less than the 18. For the ECBP, batch 12 still reigns supreme for me. The others were (I think) a 10 and  6 hazmat. The hazmat was last.

Thanks for the feedback.  Nice lineup.

Nothing against the C15, it’s fine,

but there’s no reason to get one as long as C16 is available.
That stuff is fantastic!

Playing hooky today after a busy weekend.

We attended our oldest sons graduation from GWU in DC.  It was the longest ceremony that we've ever attended, and we've been to a few as he's earned a  handful of degrees...this one is a post-graduate "Master of Laws" in Government & Procurement law.

The speakers and presenters took forever and the guest speaker for  commencement, Nina Totenberg,(an NPR correspondent), was cringe worthy and.....but I digress....we're very proud!

OGD BiB in the glass😉

Here's the 15 for your collection...

I only tried it once in a restaurant in DC, but I really enjoyed it.

Going back to the 1792 12 year this evening.  This one is a bit too unbalanced on the dry tannic astringent side.  It has a very good nose with a nice sweet oak profile but unfortunately it doesn't translate to the taste and finish.  I'm going to experiment blending this one with either the 1792 Bonded or the small batch to help balance it out.  I'm thinking the fresh banana note of the BiB will help out this whiskey.

I haven't tried the 14, but when I blinded 15 and 16 my conclusion was that they were very close, 16 maybe a little better but not worth the extra $30 or so it usually sells for over the 15.

Today is starting with an OGD 114, love the stuff, and very rare here. Very reasonable too, while watching the mens final in Rome.  Thinking about a Weller 12 next.....

Wondering what you meant by "very rare here".

If you meant it's tough to find in the stores near you, I'm sorry to hear that but it does seem to be a product that many stores don't carry and the ones that do, don't seem to stock many bottles of it.  It might not be a big seller.  I know that my county store put in on clearance about 5-6 years ago and stopped carrying it.  I obviously bought a case at that time haha.  Funny enough, they started carrying it again recently.

If you meant it's not popular with the members of this site, that would not be correct.  I know there are many fans of OGD 114 and its almost burnt corner of the brownie pan profile including me.

EC NAS while waiting for the Pacers-Celtics game.  Not a huge NBA fan but I enjoy watching the Pacers and the Fever.
