Oh, I was thinking the road less travelled would involve Canadian Whiskey.  I guess Bourbon Cream might be another road less travelled.

When you think about it, it's amazing that the bean counters at Campari haven't already messed it up.  I don't know if the Russells are responsible for keeping it what it is, but I like to think so.  It still kicks the a&$ of most bourbons twice its price.

There's an event I speak at where I'm expected to bring a bunch of little 2 oz bottles for fellow speakers. 

 

Brought 'em Blanton's Gold last time. They loved it.

 

Brought 'em KC12 this time. They loved it every bit as much.

New Riff barrel pick 4 yr. 
 

Not bad, had to purchase for LS barrel club. My first New Riff. Probably wouldn’t have ever tried it otherwise.

Finally got around to cracking open my bottle of A. Overholt Rye. Wow, very spicy. My taste buds aren't the same ever since I had covid a couple of years ago, so I can't give a detailed tasting of it. I can't discern between all of the flavors that others can tell apart anymore, but I know it's "spicy" more than a Kentucky rye. Not bad.

I have never considered liquoring up my audience prior to speaking events.  I don't do as much public speaking as in the past but I still do an occasional presentation.  I am at the point in my career where I just don't give a shit.  I might just bring a bottle or two to the next professional presentation and offer up a pour or two to the participants.  The last event had around 50 people.  So maybe 4 bottles with a 2 oz shot at the beginning and then a 2 oz shot midway through.  I believe I was at around 40 minutes.  So, rather than asking "does anyone have any questions?", I could ask "does anyone want another shot?" 🤪

 

I am not sure what to do if they don't drink bourbon.  I know...I will just say that the price of admission for hearing my nonsense is you have to take a shot whenever I say a trigger word or you can just go out in the hallway until I am done spewing nonsense. 🤪.  Obviously, as a Cheap Bastard, they would be taking shots of shit whiskey but after the second shot they probably wouldn't notice. 😀

In this case I shared with fellow speakers. It's fun, we chat, bond, do some business, etc. Also...they shall likely be quite willing to find/mule things in the future (e.g., one little trip to Japan with a few WT12's for Moi, etc.). The latter is not the purpose, just a nice side benefit.

 

If I host the event, I have been known to pass a bottle or two around. Breaks the ice and allows me to identify fellow trouble makers.

 

I am pretty obnoxious (surprise!) when speaking, it's part of the schtick. I actually make people sign something to the effect of "This is not a Safe Space, I will not alter my vocabulary to cater to your personal problems, I will discuss my superior right-wing politics, don't like it don't come, etc.". Weeds out a good many losers and allows me to eviscerate the few who do show up.

Hughgweil mentioned to me that he thought it was way better than A124. 11y, 130 proof. He does like his stuff proofy. 

 

I used to get every release, now I generally wait for a few reviews from people I trust (same with Bookers, I prefer the ECBP's to those most days). I'll get one or two of these.

 

With ECBP there's good or there's great, I've never had one I thought was bad. So I tend to hold out for the "better" ones. My palate is improving, I can often tell the difference.

Oh, ok - gave up on Little Book after buying 1, 2, & 3.  Just not worth the price for the experience (for me at least).  😔

I really enjoy the LB7.  It amazes me that the blending of the first 6 resulted in this profile.  I have my eye on a backup that has been sitting at a local store.

I opened a KCSB that I've had for a year or so.  This is one of those no extra information on the barrel - date or cute name who selected it.  Never been sorry about any KCSB I've tried.  No exception here.  So far, the one stand out characteristic of this barrel - drinks way below its' proof.

I’m having a nice pour of a ps OFSB Barrel Strength 128.2 proof. One of the darkest and hottest bourbons I’ve had in a while. The nose is sublime. Very earthy/vegetal/mushroomy with spice and wood in the background. First sip, hot. Too hot. Very spicy and a bit acidy. Added water and ice chips and it’s much better. More woody, and some smokiness is there. The nose changed a little too. Still earthy, but now there’s the smell of a rickhouse starting to come through. Love that in a bourbon. Let it sit. Nose is about the same. Flavor has a changed little though. Earthiness is back, along with a slight hint of mustiness. These flavors trying to come through remind me so much of some of the older OF bottlings I’ve had in the past.  🤤

I could not believe it when I heard it. Somebody really, really knew what he was doing.

 

I was hesitant after my experience with LB6, but one of you tried it and it told me "get more than one". Glad I did.

Completely agree. Have had some exceptional ones and some that were good, never a meh. C 922 was really good, C923 was gods gift to bourbon.
