Great tasting and excellent feedback

  What's BYO?

Bottle Your Own, at Heaven Hill they let you choose one to fill after tasting between four. One is usually a Select Stock, one is the ECBP, one Bernheim BP and Larceny BP. I think all or Connor O'Driscoll picks. I was lucky enough to have a lady next to me that was in for the experience but did not want a bottle. So I managed to walk out with an ECBP and a Bernheim

So there's a business conference that I speak at, repeatedly. I bring bourbon for the backstage people - usually OWA, EHT SmB, various Blantons, KC12, etc. And a few special sampler bottles for the real aficionados.

One of them left me some Old Carter. I'd never tried it. I like it, a lot. I need to research it. Drinks well below its proof, sweet. Cinnamon for me.

Thanks for the info.  I haven't been to HH in several years. I don't think they offered this the last time I was there.

It could have been called You Do Bourbon at the time too.  I went last year and got the Select Stock 14-year wheat whiskey and it's one of the best bottles in my collection.  Now they've replaced it with a 9-year malt whiskey that people aren't too impressed with.

Correct, that 9 year malt has been on there for months now! Seems they cannot get rid of it.... I tasted it, not bad at all, but nothing compared to the other three choices.

Totally agree - I love that wheat. The 9y malt is what caused me to buy the ECBP they had for the tour.

I actually really liked the malt and it was my selection. The Larceny was fantastic and Mrs. Clueby got that. I thought the ECBP was way off profile and had a smoky/sooty note I didn't care for. I normally really like Bernheim BP but the selection in YDB didn't really stand out.

Cooking last rack of spare ribs bought last year on sale - meat manager overbought and sold them after 4 July for $1.89 a pound.   Going to have slushy juleps with them.  Opened a bunkered KC I bought in 2014 for $22 a 750.  Out of ribs, but I have several more KCs.

YUM!

Per drink -

In a blender, put

2 ounces of bourbon (I use bib or higher due to ice)

3/4 ounce of simple syrup (adjust to your taste)

1/2 ounce of lemon juice (adjust; I do use lemon juice from a round squeeze bottle)

1 cup of ice

7 good-sized mint leaves but no stems

Run and add a few more ice cubes until the ice is pretty much crunched but stop before it turns really liquidy.  Pour into medium Collin’s glass and top with more bourbon as desired.  Fat straws are a good idea.

This was already sounding great and then you really got me with "top with more bourbon...."

@Harry in WashDC   If you like slushes, I can highly recommend this one. The  recipe has been in the family for years. I'm not sure where it came from.

After it's frozen, scoop it into any size glass, about 2 3rds full,  slap 3-4 mint leaves in your hands to release the oils, stick the leaves in the mixture, top with 7-Up or ginger ale and garnish with a sprig of mint.   You can top with more bourbon, if desired😉

Watching swim trials again and the kid that my nephew swam with in swim club just won the 200IM to get into the Olympics after also winning the 400IM so I decided to open the recent Bourbon Crusaders RRSiB.

This reminds me of some old punch recipes I've read (like from colonial times).

A pour from the Copper & Kings apple brandy finished, damn I like this!. The apple aroma is a great complement to the trio of bourbons they used and it presents on the palate just enough, but doesn’t overwhelm the base whiskies. A nice long finish lingers between sips and makes me wish I bought more as this checks the requirement of being unique but delicious. A batch 2 is in the works finished for 2 yrs instead of the 1 that this version got. I think they had the balance just right, I hope batch 2 doesn’t get f’d up as I would get more next year, or  maybe I’ll luck out and some batch 1 will be hanging around collecting dust. There’s sooooo much different “stuff” on the shelves I could see this getting lost in the mix, in fact I think it already has.

Have seen WT Kentucky Spirit show up more occasionally over the last several months.  Got another one this week, and as the others, it is spectacular.  The nose is pure rickhouse bouquet on a hot Summer day.  Ultra creamy mouth feel, and the best that WT house profile (char, caramel, chewiness, deep brown sugar) brings.  Perhaps, the old hefty 1792 big bottom glass is the perfect vessel for this whiskey, but regardless, it’s really working!  😍
