I had a wee snort of Weller SR as a nightcap last night.

Have learned to bring the wee bottles. Delta lounge in Atlanta, contraband ECBP 10y, 123.3 proof, charity bottle "Kentucky Colonels". Very good, sweet, oak is there but muted making for some complexity , pleasant sandpaper texture. Mmmmmm.

GD BiB 2024 or #5 12yr.  I bought the first one when it came out as I have been a GD12 fan for many years and have also enjoyed a few of the SBs as well so, that 13yr Bib was a buy on sight. As I went through the bottle, I would up feeling it was over oaked for my preference, it turned into a mood pour and I was in that mood very infrequently. The new 12yr held more promise for me as what notes I've seen, suggested a better balance in this 5th iteration. Today I cracked mine and enjoyed my initial pour more than the entire #1 bottle. This is what I was looking for when the Bib series debuted. I think Nicole Austin really nailed a nice balance with this release, a bit of everything with no one note drowning out the others. This one has many layers, as a well aged bourbon should, including a touch of that famous GD minerality which I happen to really like but again balanced VERY well IMO and a very nice finish that lingers well after the sip. Its GD12 but this one IS actually 12yrs.

WR Batch Proof 124.7.  Every time I go to this bottle, I always remember each stellar experience I’ve had, but for whatever reason, I expect it to not live up to them.  But tonight, like each time before, it does live up.  The nose is spectacular, it’s thick and chewy over the palate, looooong finish, and seriously it reminds me of an old dusty era bourbon.  I like regular Woodford.  Quite a bit, actually.  But wow, is this whiskey a very special step(s) up….

You've been working that bottle!

Had some S-I-L help. We dived feet 1st into everything for the week long visit. So much so that I dried out for a week after he left.

This evening (and for the past 3 days) I'm having some Baker's 7.  Last night I decided to have a small pour of KC9 100 proof after the Baker's 7, and they are pretty darn similar.  No surprise I suppose, as they are both JB products.  However, I'm now thinking it might be overly redundant to keep both the Baker's 7 and KC9 100 proof on a regular basis.  At roughly $32 for a 750ml bottle or $63 for a 1.75l bottle of the KC9 it might be wise to just keep buying the KC9 and forego the Baker's 7.  I'll sip on the KC9 and contemplate this very difficult 1st world problem for a while 🙃

I like to have two pours open.  I run a banger like WTRB or Baker’s and then a standard bonded like EWBIB or OGD bonded.    When I’m in the mood for a cocktail, the bonded pours have the backbone but are good enough to sip neat when warranted.  I like to sip the higher end when I accomplish a project at work or home and feel like a little reward.   I think rhe allocated pours are getting ridiculous as far as price and availability.  I turned 50 this year and have long stopped chasing the unicorns.   I find much more joy enjoying sharing a pour of OF100 with a novice visiting my hunting shack than trying to get on social media with my latest $300 “find” to look good online.

Had a little get together with a few guys, the theme was Toasted and 2nd barrel bourbons. The Jefferson 16y and the Woodford SP stole the show.

Well, Ernesto passed by. Only 20 mph wind & a decent amount of rain. Media is of course using headlines like "Puerto Rico slammed" or "hammered". Consistent with "climate change" and "Puerto Rico Oppressed by Bad Gringos" narratives.

Also untrue, not that Patriarchy Tools of Oppression such as "truth" matter much.

Enjoying a nice KC9 SiB with gratitude for a near miss.

Well, Jenner & OJ (and health) turned me off of eating my Wheaties. So now I drink 'em instead. OWA it is.

I will join you with a MM BEP before dinner.
I’ve been in the yard most of the day.  About to heat up some pulled pork with Johnny cakes, baked beans and corn on the cob.

RR15 in Dean's Glencairn.jpg

After a massive squall line came through Beantown about 90 minutes ago with high winds, thunder and lighting, heavy and intense rainfall (take that @Anwalt), now a cool 65 degrees calm night has fallen.  Seems like a fine time to have a "wee dram" of RR15 in a glencairn from my favorite liquor store in Collinsville, IL.  Still wonderful dark color, magnificent nose, a huge pop on the palate of cinnamon, chocolate and caramel with a great mouthfeel, and long, long finish.  What a delighful dram to start off the evening.  Yummo!  😋

That sounds good!

Wifey says chicken sausage (it's actually not bad, well spiced), steamed broccoli, rosemary & garlic potatoes baked in the glorious air fryer ("crispy"), baked onions, and some sort of "not Kimchi" cabbage salad. I got The Look and did not seek further details.

Hey, what’s your Johnny cakes recipe.  Had them many times, but not done myself.  Want to though!
