Been working on this one for quite a while now. This handle was Intended for a member at our get together in Bardstown back in 2019, but that didn’t work out. One thing lead to another. Shoulder surgery, Covid, etc…  Anyway, samples have been shared, a couple of informal tastings, shared at the Legion on the deck with cigars, etc… Not great, but doesn’t suck. Fairly serviceable at 80 proof. Biba! 🥃

Quite a while indeed since it has been a straight bourbon.

Here's what I was drinking yesterday:

Ry3; Ron Izalco; Four Gate; Old Forester; Woodford Reserve; Jack Daniels; Tromba Tequila; Tequila Tesoro Azteca;  Frey Ranch;  Bhakta Spirits; Hirsch Whiskey; Nikka; Starward; Michter's; Whiskey Del Bac; Penelope; Westland Whiskey.

Well, I didn't drink ALL of them, but it is a partial list of who was represented at West Coast Whiskey Club's 2nd annual Spirits Showcase.  There were many other brands represented as well, and co-sponsor Corked on Stearns had a table with about a dozen of their store picks.

I am so lucky to have such a great whiskey club in my area.  Tap 24 in Long Beach closed down for the private 4-hour party and provided delicious food--sliders, salami and cheese, popcorn chicken, mozzarella-wrapped cherry tomatoes, and much more.

I would estimate over 250 people attended.  True to the whiskey world, everyone I met was like a new friend.  Katy O'Donnell (@katyinkentucky) who I met when she was Buffalo Trace's national brand ambassador is now managing Tromba Tequila for Sazerac and it was a pleasure to see her again.

Anyone in Southern California should check out WCWC.  They host events every month or two so even visitors should check their events.  I met one guy from Denver who was in L.A. on business and came to the party.

I poured a generous dram from a "special" bottle of Evan Williams Black Label.   I soaked a cinnamon stick in it about a year ago, for about a week.   I coulda pulled that cinnamon stick after about 4 or 5-days, I think.   But, it's nice.  Different.    I added several dashes of Fee Bros. Black Walnut Bitters.    An interesting and satisfying pour.

Has anyone heard when or if Makers Mark Cellar Aged will release in 2024?

The Whisky Drop from them has it as one of the bottles for October but it normally shows up in stores the month before.

I opted for a little RR SiB tonight while watching the Packers JV squad get picked apart by the Denver Broncos bench warmers.

This one hit me with a very unusual yeasty bread scent when I removed the cork, but on the palate there is overwhelming vanilla cake frosting and butter pecan ice cream.

My olfactory senses may mislead, but the Russels never disappoint.  Stellar bourbon, as expected.

Enjoying a pour of the King tonight.

Not that one…

No, not the other one…

Curiosity finally got to me so I had to look it up (being a big Old Forester fan).  I had never seen or heard of that one before, not even here on SB.com.  🤔

From the Old Forester website - This is available in TX only.  It is Old Forester aged in heavily charred barrels, then filtered through mesquite charcoal from the King Ranch.

I like that the flavors are more intense.

I probably wouldn’t go crazy trying to get a bottle unless it was an easy grab while passing through.

Yesterday was a 1792 day. Sweet Wheat, single barrel, Full Proof. I like the Full Proof the most.

Nothing fancy or expensive tonight, but I love it anyway!  Can't go wrong with WT101.

A beautiful, almost Fall-like, afternoon so, sipping on some WLW on the back deck.  The wife is out so, I may need to just bring the bottle out with me.

I saw a couple more posts about the possibility of Cooper's Craft being discontinued.  Based on plentiful stock in my area I didn't give it much credence, but rumors of the brand's demise seem to be gaining steam.  That would be sad if true.  Good bourbon it is, regardless of price.  However, it's also very good value for money in the $28-$32 range.  I'm very much enjoying it! 🙂

I have looked a lot online and FL seems to be where Cooper's Craft is plentiful, and FL allows shipping spirits to other states.

Flock Day. This one definitely has that funk. I don't taste the funk as much in RR...is it just me?

IMO, rare breed has less than RR10.

That looks like an old bottle. Is that what you get in PR?

Nice pic and great bottle 👍 🦃.  I do love me some batch 3RB.  Great bourbon, so rich and intense!  I have to go back to older Turkey to really get the real turkey funk however.
