The last two weeks at work have been the busiest two weeks over the last 20 years.  So what's a guy to do over a 4-day weekend?  Pressure wash the house, stain the deck, cut the grass, major weedeating, and pressure wash the street in front of my house.  Time to go back to work tomorrow.  😀

The weather in central Indiana has been stellar the last two days so Pappy be pushing it while he can.  Actually, they are talking about lows in the upper 40s next weekend.  I might have to start wearing underwear again now that summer is over.  😮😀

But, not before two solid pours of WTRB tonight to soothe my aching muscles and pysche.

Dang that's a busy weekend! WTRB is well deserved for sure.

One of the store picks I bought on sale last week - this has really opened up.  At first, it was kind of hot and ethanol forward but now the nose is this amazing burnt marshmallow (like you weren't paying attention and let it catch fire) and so sweet and delicious on the palate.

Dayum!!

I feel vindicated now about my own proclivity for pressure washing.

Well done!

WTRB in the glass on a beautiful evening with a couple of owls roosting and calling each other in the woods.

It was just me and @JerseyDon at the Legion for bourbon and cigars tonight. 🤷🏻 We enjoyed Benchmark Barrel Proof and Old Forester Single Barrel Barrel Proof. Yes, it was a good night. 😋

I didn't like the "neck pour" of one I picked up recently.  I hope it opens up like yours did.

Having one of the ECBP's that is merely "very good".

I enjoy getting these "inferior" ECBP's for @ $70 (all in) on Unicorn.  Between these and JD SBBP, the value is just silly on the good side.

I've had several do the same. I now open those and others ahead of time. Not sure if helps or I have to pour the neck pour. Time will tell.

Sippin' on some OGD114 to start the evening.  I'm also craving some rye, so I might dip into the KC7, or some OO10 if I want to get fancy.

Just got home and sitting down with a nice pour of WTRB while waiting for the Ravens-Chiefs game to start.  Looks like it is storming in KC so the game might be delayed a little while.  The WTRB is quite good.  I hope the game is as well.

I hit that 'old' bottle of Bowman Bros 'Pioneer Spirit' Small Batch that I'd referred to a few days ago, again today.    It's done yeoman duty; and, I believe one more day (whenever that comes to pass) will do 'er in.

It's decent enough distillate.   In fact I like it pretty well.

A refill on the WTKS after dinner.

A beautiful contrast of wood and bourbon in a glass.  That is truly the Kentucky Spirit.

On the deck at the Legion again tonight with @JerseyDon.  Miller 64, cigars, and we ended the night with a nice pour of MM. 🙂

Dayum!  If this isn't the best $30 bourbon on the planet, I don't know what is.  Cinnamon, marshmallow and Cracker Jacks.  Just delicious!

Your post from the other day reminded me that I need to have a pour, because it's been awhile (my last pours of this were part of OGW4G home blend).

 Early 'home happy hour' pour.

I don't know if my palate is just really on point today or what, but this afternoon OGD114 is hitting like a top-shelfer.  So syrupy and thick, without any young grainy notes.  Excellent!

In my experience with several RRSiB, these really do open up and improve as the level goes down, seemingly more so than a lot of other bottles.  This is totally anecdotal and not scientific mind you.  I don't really believe in the concept of the "neck pour," but as the level goes down I assume minor oxidation has an effect.  In the case of RR single barrels especially, I have had several bottles improve over time.  I'm talking about several months, not days or weeks.  YMMV.

Opted for a pour of standard 1792 to start the weekend.  It is actually my wife's lone bourbon bottle.  She uses it for her favorite cocktail.  She has a backup bottle and this one had a a nice pour left in it so I thought I will give it a try.

I have always found it to be ok but there are so many bottles in the price range that I prefer.  I like the spicy rye profile but it always seems like a battle between sweet and spicy.  One sip is spicy and then the next is sweet or maybe its vice versa.  😜  I much prefer the single barrel version.

I’d say neck pours and opening up is definitely a thing with 4R picks too. Although I wonder if those still exist.

I picked up my 1st WTKS since the fan tail bottle went away. I just can’t see paying 3 times the price of WT101 for a NAS SiB that’s the same proof and chill filtered.  But while browsing I noticed one from my favorite warehouse, CN-F so I bought it. I cracked it this evening and it’s very good on the nose and palette but thin and lacking on the finish. I wish I had put $20 with it and bought the CN-F RR pick another local has. I doubt I’ll roll the dice on another one.

Is that a recent purchase or from the bunker?

From the bunker.  Without looking I think probably 2016 or 17.

I still enjoy and continue to purchase Kentucky Spirit.  But strictly from a value standpoint I can't really justify it so I understand why others don't recommend it.  To me, it's still a quality bottle of bourbon at a fair price.  I find it noticeably more refined than WT101 with more aged bourbon notes.  But yes RRSiB is always a better bottle for not that much more money.

OGD from that era is some of my favorite bourbon. I stopped buying it 3 or 4 years ago because there was a dramatic decline to me. I need to try it again though.

I didn't know there was a difference, good to know.  I stocked up back then when the (now recurring) rumor was it was going away ... still have some of those bottles.  Glad to have them!
