I found this bottle of bourbon at an estate sale and cannot find any information on it.   Can anyone help?

Just a thought. Why in the world would you buy something you know nothing about?  Every purchase I make, I have at least a minimum understanding of the product.

Cheers

I see your point…and understand now that I’m on the backside of the hunting thrill.  But, back in my early days of hunting, I grabbed all kinds of stuff I had no clue what the heck it was.  Mistakes were indeed made…🤪. But, there were some gems!  😁

Looking at that label, it does look like some sort of Heaven Hill Cats & Dogs label.  Or, some sort of private label?  Does that say New Orleans on the bottom of the label?  Could offer another clue.  Dudette, can you show a pic of the back label?

I think I'd be curious enough about something like that to pick it up at an estate sale where it would probably be pretty cheap anyway.  I wonder what the OP paid for it...

If you post the back label we can probably tell you its provenance.  Even then, it looks to have little vakue beyond sentimental value for whoever had it.  The fill level is very suspect.  I would even be concerned about drinking it.  The dude in the picture looks like Henry Kissinger.

I am shady enough that I would have still bought it and then put it in a decanter and told my friends it was the original Elijah Craig.  They wouldn't know the difference if they took shots in between shotgunning Fosters from the can.

I agree with smokinjoe... about grabbing loads of stuff back in my early days, without knowing much about it in advance, and scoring a few winners among the 'other stuff'.   I also agree with him about it likely being one the many 'cats and dogs' brands made and bottled by HH through the years, though I admit, I've never run across this one.    The label loox like their style from back in the day.

I also agree with 'broo' that the fill level is very suspect.   It's not impossible that a poor original seal resulted in some escape of vapor, and loss of product; but, it's also possible one of the kids or grandkids surreptitiously opened, sampled and resealed the bottle.   I know I did that occasionally with Dad's bourbon; but, I refilled it with water to the correct level.   Of course once that seal is broken it's less likely to be perfect no matter how tight one screws in on.

Value?  Probably not much; but, it would be interesting to carefully sample a little.

Does it have a DSP number on it somewhere?

I’m not sure where to find that?

I paid $2.00.   Well worth the price for a piece of bourbon history in my mind.

I should have included this in the beginning, I apologize.

Given the bottle has a tax strip across the top and no UPC bar code on the label puts the age back to around 1980 or before.

Taking into account that the cloudiness is a warning sign regarding drinkability, bourbons from that era of 4 yr and 80 proof stand up well.  I’ve had several that were quite good.

YMMV. I've had several from that era that taste of the youthful 4yr. I'm not a fan. Also, at 80 proof, too thin of a mouth feel for me.
