I have only seen it on the shelf once.  It was $78,99.

That's unfortunate.  I really like it, but I don't feel it's worth that.  Save your money and keep looking.  FWIW, my local small store has it for the cheapest I've seen it yet, $45.99.  It's a great bottle around $50ish, but not worth it for $78.  However if you just can't find it for less, then personally my curiosity (it is a different, unique experience than WT101 or WTKS after all) would probably justify that price.  YOLO.  Good luck!

Finally arrived here in NY. I’ve been checking in at my local store occasionally waiting for it to arrive. Stopped in today after work and saw a bottle in the case. Manager said they just got “a small amount” in, and they only had 4 left. Bought 2 at $45 per, and left 2 for the next guy.

Nice pickups at very nice price. Enjoy!

Here are the sample bottles.
Look closely at the proofs.

The proof on the 12yr is one of the reasons (excuses) Wild Turkey has used for the last few years, why they aren’t able to produce 12yr 101  bottles.   I suppose this justifies their argument, but is still a head scratcher given what is in the shelves over seas. 🤷‍♂️

All of the stores around me (in MS) seemed to get this bottle on the same day, and they sold out in about a week.  I was down for two weeks recovering from surgery and missed out on it, but I did manage to find a buddy that grabbed one for me, and he said his local store still has 2.5 cases of it.  From reading everybody's thoughts in here, I'm thinking I should ask him to go get another 1 or 2 for me.  Supposed to meet up with him in another week or two and do a bottle swap and I can get my hands on it.  I always have Rare Breed at Thanksgiving but this year it'll be the 70th anniversary 8 year bottle!

I don’t think you will be disappointed with adding another bottle  or two.

Cheers

Finally got it here in PA. Very tasty.  More complex than traditional 101. Worth the wait.

Opened up the new 70th Ann yesterday. DAMN!!! Lots to like here and I fell very fortunate to be offered 2 at $45 each. Anybody speaking poorly about this needs their taste buds tuned up. Whiskey of the year.

If retail price is a factor, and among new releases, I think you may be right.  👍

Got a chance yesterday to buy two bottles at $49/each.  Could not pass it up.

I enjoyed the juice.  We then compared it to the Russell’s Reserve 10 summers old Camp Nelson at 110.  The RR won convincingly.

EIther Way;  Cheers to Jimmy!!

I snagged a bottle today because it finally showed up in my part of Georgia. I am enjoying it. Need to do a tasting with regular wt101 and Kentucky Spirit to see where it ranks.

One of the locals placed it in their annual holiday lottery.  🤪

Another told me they blew through 12 cases.

I wonder how this will figure in with that WT101 8 year label Steve discovered listed on the TTB site.

If WT has plenty of 8 year old barrels, might as well sell as many 70th Anniversary bottles as possible @ $50 a piece.

At deer camp this weekend my buddy and I sampled his WT 70th and compared it to regular 101, and my WTKS CNE warehouse bottle I had open. His favorite ended up being the WTKS. For only about $5 more, I would agree that a good bottle of WTKS is better than the 70th and worth the couple of extra $$.

A place near me is asking $99.00 and his excuse is "they only gave us 2 bottles"   Fuck that!    Mrs. Skinsfan, the great enabler, saw that TW has it for $54.00.     If I find it in that price range, it's a buy!   I must have one!

My local TW list it @ $47.99 and "out of stock".  🙁

For my $,02 worth... The distillate is better than ordinary WT101.   The differences are subtle; but, they're there.   To enjoy those differences, IMHO, one must take one's time and really savor every facet: color, aroma, palate and finish.   AND, not insignificantly (for me at any rate) the 'Jimmie Russell' souvenir bottle is very cool to have.   He ain't gonna be around forever . . . though, it has seemed like that might be the case for a while now. HA!   Good Luck!

Interesting.  I understand that prices across the country are relative so when someone says they paid x while someone else say they paid y both may have paid a fair price for their area.

I am seeing a lot of WTKS CNE on the shelf for around $65.  The only WT 70th I have seen on the shelf was $78.  This was the same store that told me they went through 12 cases.  This store usually has prices close to MSRP.  However, it also occasionally misprices bottles.  My guess is the bottles I saw at $78 were mispriced.  I don't believe they ran through 12 cases at that price.  I have seen it listed out of stock on several local LS websites and the price is usually around $55.  I would be a buyer at $55 just to give it a try.  But at $60, I would probably opt for WTKS CNE.  Of course, I can find Rare Breed for $50 or RRSiB for $65.  Lots of WT choices within $10-15.

I did a tasting between WT101 and WT 70th and while the WT 70th was slightly better experience but certainly not twice the price. Just my opinion.

That might be true most of the time but I’ve had some regret WTKS SiBs and I have no regret with the 70th anniversary.

I recently did a blind that included the 70th anniversary, regular 101 and a recent Kentucky Spirit. The regular 101 stood out as easily the weakest of the three. And for what it’s worth, the Wild Turkey website says Kentucky Spirits are 8.5 to 9.5 years old so pretty comparable to an 8/101.

When doing a barrel pick at Turkey the pool of barrels to taste is the same for WTKS and RRSiB.

Yeah, for sure. But picks of Kentucky Spirit are discontinued so only shelf versions being bottled now, which is what I take that info to refer to. Granted the 101 private selections seem to be the same as KS picks, stats wise.
