ebo
I want a bottle of this, but I refuse to pay $80 - $90 for it.

QPR limit for me, coincidentally, is MSRP: $50. The empty bottle being a nice "Jimmie R. keepsake" can dictate one spend a bit extra, so your top-offer may be different than someone else's; but, $80 is too much IMO, as well.

I suspect you (and I) will both find it at retail price of $50 or maybe slightly under - after the initial hype dies down a bit. Hey, isn't it easy to track stuff online in OH. You might find it before I do.

Hey, isn't it easy to track stuff online in OH. You might find it before I do. I have a liquor store close by that has just about anything you could want. They sell at reasonable rates. I haven't checked in there yet, but I would think the price/s you posted would be around that. I was just looking at prices on line and they range from $49 to $90 depending on who is selling it. I'm sure I can find one for reasonable, sooner or later.
MadGoodPour
i did not see it here in CT, but did have a pour and would definitely pay 80-90 for it. i realize it will be annual, but as a collector and knower of batch variations i would like to find a 70th of my own.

I don’t believe it’s annual, I do however believe there is a TON of it, bide your time no reason to overpay IMO 50.00 is plenty so let the initial tater fever die down and you should be good.

I hate to admit it but I will also overpay to get one if it comes to that. This is an allocated item in VA, which means it is put out on the shelf at random. I trolled (just stopped in on the way home from work) several local stores for a few weeks and missed it once by a day. I'm done trolling for stuff, my time is worth more than saving 30 or 40 bucks to get something I want like this at MSRP. Ya'll not in control states cherish the fact that you can actually find stuff like this without having to put in significant effort.

Heard from a wholesaler and he said there is ALOT of the 70th out there. They are holding back because they want it to be exclusive and not on the shelf next to regular 101. My LS sells it for $49, only got 2 six packs this first go around. I picked up 4 over a two week time.

flahute
Total Wine has a ton of this out here. I ended up with 12 total by buying them 3 at a time. They still have it with no restrictions.

Yep, I saw him hand a guy a bottle on a couple of occasions and when I ask if he had any more and he told me the guy worked for one of the distributors. Of course, that could have been his way of telling me to f... off but he is usually open whether he has something or not. Maybe it is a pay or play business in Indiana. PaulO
Reminds me of a scene in Casablanca. The constable announces that he is shocked to discover there is gambling going on in the back of the café. MyBrainOnWhiskey
I'm not a fan of companies that create "false scarcity". I don't necessarily think WT should release it all at once; but when a company says that a certain bottle will be a national release and that there will plenty of it, then it should generally be in stock and on the shelf. As for availability of the Jimmy Russell 70th Anniversary bottle in my area, it's poopy. I've only seen it twice on my local shelves at two different locations. I passed the first time because the retailer had it marked at $59.99 (and I thought that was too much). For the next several weeks I kicked myself for being a cheapskate and not buying it . When I saw it the 2nd time it was $55, so I bought two . If I see it again under $60 I'll probably buy more, but I won't chase it.

mbroo5880i
I saw it when it was initiallly released but the price was $78. I haven't seen it since. However, I have come to the conclusion that distribution of bourbon in Indiana is rigged. Then even when it hits retail it is set aside as some sort of unicorn release. I would have better luck finding BTAC than the WT101 70th anniverary release. I have seen several stores including it in their annual lottery. What I have seen in the past is the coasts and largest cities get any new releases long before we do. I'd say give it a couple more months. If there is still a good amount out there, we might start finding it on shelves. Seems kind of silly, given we are barely over 100 miles from KY where they make the stuff. At this point I figure some combination of: not much sent this way, hoarding, retailers really trying to milk the customers for money, generate buzz for their dumb lotteries. I was able to console myself with purchasing a couple bottles of Rare Breed @ $39 each at the grocery store sale. IamMatt
This was pretty readily available at Costco in CA for $40 so I have a few bottles. I wonder is anyone has compared it to the RR 10-yr LL/ME.
VWIndy
I did compare it to a RR13 and a RR 10 summers Camp Nelson F bottle. Was good but was not in the same strata as the other two. See What BOURBON ARE YOU DRINKING 2024 Page 22. Cheers
