What bourbon did you purchase this Fall 2024?

Scooped up a bottle of the Jimmie Russell commemorative WT 8-yr.   (FINALLY in The Mitten State!)    I intend to do a SBS with ordinary WT101.    I'll let ya'll know what I think afterwards.   I'm told by a few folx that have had the chance to try it, that it isn't wildly different than WT101; but a couple of ''em thought (at least initially) that was a little bit different; smoother (not milder) and a bit more integrated.   One lady thought it was a bit more "refined" . . . whatever that means.   My monger was 'underwhelmed'; his word.

...More later...

The last couple of days have been good to me.  The JJ Bowman and JD SBBP  rye are repeats.  The EC is a ‘had to pick it up’. The KC is new to me and bought based on this forums input (I don’t think I’ll be disappointed).
cheers!

Well, had a fun ten days of travel, almost all of it connecting with friends & family.

The Jim Beam Dinner was memorable. The quality of the food was top notch. The Noes were a hoot. Cocktails are not my thing for the most part, there were plenty of them. The tasting of OGD16, KC18, Little Book Infinite, and Bookers Reserves was nice...if low on volume and a bit rushed for my tastes. It could be my young palate but I do better with an ounce or two over at least ½ hour. I cannot really tell from a brief sip followed by another and another and another what I’ll truly like.

Lots of bottles available for purchase. I went at the Bookers, Little Book, OGD16, and Bakers 13. The remaining bottles in the pic were ones awaiting a flight to Puerto Rico, more of which shortly.

That particular enlargement program has succeeded by my standards and is a disaster by the Wifey's. MiL has been a tie-breaker, thankfully seeing the righteousness of my cause.

I shall mercifully not discuss other size-driven projects.

Now, about Elon's rockets.....

stopped into a small LS i hadn't been to in a long while on my way home from an appointment this afternoon.  To my surprise they had a CN-E warehouse bottle of WTKS just sitting on the shelf for a fair price. I grabbed it and when i got home, i was surprised to find that it is from the exact barrel of the current bottle i have open. This was a different store than the one I purchases my open bottle from.

Spending the evening at the beach alone,  enjoying the night breeze with a turkey sandwich,  some Paul Desmond,  and another lucky bottle I found of Sagamore Barrel Select.

The availability of this bottle is fading fast,  and it's a stone cold classic.   Six years old, and a blend of MGP high and low rye mashbills,  this stuff at 110 proof is powerful and purposeful,  an overwhelming blend of balanced flavor.  If any of y'all should encounter this, bottle, for goodness sake  purchase and enjoy without reservation.  It is fantastic.

Ever have one of those days where you go in one store specifically to buy one bottle, and walk out with 5?

Went by a LLS last week to grab a handle of WT101 (I always keep one for those easy sipper nights, plus it's cheap mixer) so I've got it in my hand, and turn for the register.  Noticed that they had just gotten in a barrel pick of Old Forester.  I love these picks and also buy basically every pick this store does to support them, so for $89 it's in my other hand.  Manager came over to say hey, we chatted a bit and he asked me "Didn't you say you were wanting a Stagg?  I finally got some in..." so now I've got 3 bottles in my hands.  When he came back with it he also asked me "Hey do you like Penelope stuff?  I got this bottle in the back, it's supposed to be put in orange wine casks, I never heard of it before..."  so Valencia is #4 and it's tucked in the left arm now and I'm eyeing the register.  And then noticed that they finally started carrying Benchmark Full Proof (for some reason my state only gets the Single Barrel and the Bonded) so for $22 I added that to the other arm.   I won't need to buy anything till 2025 now :)

Cheers!

I went on the hunt Wednesday and today, two different locations, the grocery store sale.  🥳

I tried something I would not normally buy - Branson VS French Cognac.  This place had gotten some in and apparently no one knew what it was or wanted to buy it.  It went on a super low close out.  I bought two, opened one that night.  I liked it so much, next chance I went back, grabbed the last one.

Everything else I picked up was Bourbon:

MM Cask Strength

WT 101

Old Forester 100

George Dickel Signature Recipe (the new label for GD #12, and yes it qualifies as Bourbon)

Four Roses (80 proof standard version, used to be "yellow label")

I am not certain that I have ever tried cognac even in a cocktail.  What would you compare it to?  I haven't made it to the grocery store sale yet.

I will try and do a review of the cognac in the French spirits thread next time I have it open in front of me.  It's a very easy drinking 80 proof - smells like fruit, no alcohol burn at all.

Oh, and I forgot to post, also got EW B.I.B. in the sale.

This was gifted to me at our tailgate today.

Is it bourbon?

Is it rye?

It's KC, so it's gotta be good!

After dropping the kids off for a sleepover with my sister in-law I did a little bourbon hunting on my way back home. Found what I was looking for and passed up some other interesting bottles. It seems that another round of Camp Nelson barrels of WTKS were dumped this fall, and I almost grabbed one but spent enough for the day.

We had to go out and pick up a couple of things today. One place we had to stop at was just a few doors down from Binny’s. Well, there was talk in another thread about HH BIB’s, and I was kinda running low with my HH BIB Blend. I already had a bottle of EW BIB, so I bought a bottle of JW Dant BIB and a bottle of JTS Brown BIB. I know have plenty of my HH BIB Blend. 🤗

Those are some of my favorites Joe, but I never experimented much with any blending.

My first HH Blend was by chance and not planned like my Weller Blends were. I had a couple of bottles open that were less than halfway full. I combined them to open up a spot on my cabinet. Days later I had a pour and was a bit surprised. I then bought the third bottle and added some to the mix. 👌 The rest as they say, is history. 🥃
