I Don't Know Jack

Out and about today, I spotted about 2/3 of a one liter bottle of Jack Daniels Old No.7 at an estate sale (I know, another dumb estate sale story).  According to the state tax stamp, it was bottled in 1983.  The liquid was not cloudy, looked to have been stored in a cabinet in the basement, and the plastic cap was still sealing the contents adequately.

Would anyone know of any good reason to plop down $8 for such a thing?  Any reason to believe this would differ from  today's product in a notable way?  Perhaps the opposite is true, and the stuff was so putrid in the 80s that the guy just locked it away for 41 years in the dungeon.

My father in law had an old bottle of Jack like this.  Probably late 80's.

He found/brought it out of the back of the cabinet for me one Christmas maybe 7 years ago

and said I think we have some root beer to make it more tolerable.

I politely declined and drank it neat.  It was delicious.

Way better than the current stuff based on memory and perception.... maybe it was just the holidays.

My only caveat would be about the fact that it's been opened.   Who can say what may or may not have been introduced into that partially full bottle.   If unadulterated, it's likely very nice whiskey.   I believe during that time period, JD would have been still sold at 90-proof.   A small but useful benefit, IMO.
