TH78
Hello, I am a new member from Germany. I am interested in Old Bourbon Bottles. Knowing something but want to learn more, so I joined this forum. Somebody offered me this bottle to buy for 2000€ (~2150USD) (Pics seems to come from a shop) Looks great, but I cant find informations about this version of the OLD RIP? On the Labal ist stated : "Many Summers Old" Bottle Code on the Label: A3168 The only information I found is here at an European Whisky-Database: https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/79505/old-rip-van-winkle-nas If its true, there was only made 480 bottles in 1990? So does anyone know more about this NAS Edition? Was it produced inly once? Whats the value? Is it worth to buy and collect? Thanks
LCWoody
I’m sure it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. But, drinking it is invaluable, it cannot be replaced and would be a once in a lifetime experience to enjoy it.
PaulO
TH78, Have you tried a bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle lately. If not, I suggest buying that and drinking it to see how much you like it, before paying 2000 Euros for an old bottle. I've never seen an old bottle exactly like the one in the picture (no age statement). It may have been a private barrel or something that Julian did only when they were starting out. Is it worth to buy and collect. Maybe an auction house cam say if one of those have sold recently. As far as collecting, well that's fine as a hobby. It's not an investment. People's preferences may be different in the future.
TH78
Sorry Guys, I am not in the position to open such a bottle. Collecting and sell (hopefully bit higher) in a few years at retirement - thats what I want to do. On Whisky Auctioneer I found one bottle, but there is a mistake at the description. Its not 15y old. Its clearly written on the back label and side on front label. "many summers old" https://whiskyauctioneer.com/lot/5016739/old-rip-van-winkle-15-year-old-1998-stitzel-weller Ok, it seems its really a special edition so far. Maybe someone in this forum has more informations - thanks. Edited October 29, 2024 by TH78

It's very risky to assume it will go up.
