I made a similiar thread about three years ago, which is locked now, but I went from over 400 to 1300 in that time with almost 400 of them being bourbon/rye.

I'm definitely slowing down at this point. How have your collections grown in recent years?

I have way too many to be honest, but I still keep buying albeit at a little slower pace than in the years past.

Ditto. I have an oar in the same canoe. 😏

I too, have decreasd my acquisitions by a considerable amount.   Being pretty selective, and no longer pursuing the unicorns has brought me a note of calm, and I can't actually say I miss the scramble at all.   Bourbon Zen, I suppose.

I have no clue about the number of bottles in my closet(s), and no inclination to count 'em; sorry.   Hundreds?  Probably.  Thousands? I don't believe so.

I mean really...who's counting?  If I actually knew the number, I'd never buy another bottle, lol.

I've retired,   so I've shifted my focus away from the $60 and up stuff to the excellent bourbons and ryes available at the $30 - $40 price point.    My last few purchases have included Sagamore Barrel Select ($45),   Weller Special Reserve (first bottle I've scored in many years at just $27),   and Old Scout (quality MGP at about $35).     When my stash of WTKS runs out,  i'll be content with WT101.

The frugality imposed by retirement is a small price to pay for the amazing feeling of stress just draining away.    I've passed just this month on two finds of Remus Repeal Reserve that back in my lawyer days I'd have purchased without hesitation,   and you know what?   I don't care!   The music sounds just as sweet and my glass is just as full.

I have comfortable space for 40, but right now I'm currently up to 60.  I've got about 10 bottles that I'm holding for a couple buddies who asked me to keep an eye out for this or that, and I've got another handful that are low and need to go on and be killed so I should be able to easily trim back to ~40-45 within the next week or two.

"Gotta pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers."  Haha

At one time I had somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 bottles give or take. Over the years I whittled it down (in various ways) to under 100 bottles. Much more realistic and managable. With retirement, Covid, taterism, the bourbon boom, and just being lazy, I haven’t truly updated my spreadsheet in quite a while. So, I finally decided to check my stash and update my spreadsheet. This included checking bottles I have stored elsewhere. The results didn’t raise too much of an eyebrow. 🤨 In times past I seem to remember I normally had around 85-90 total bottles. As of last night the total number of bottles I have is 92. FWIW, after Covid hit I know my stash dwindled a bit for a couple of years or so. As things seem to have started to loosen up a bit, it appears I’ve more than made up for my losses. Also and FWIW, I find it hard to pass up bottles that I like and haven’t seen in a while. Now to keep on drinking and sharing. 😎

Here’s a breakdown.

Open bottles-17 This is a little higher than normal due to a few recent purchases and gifted bottles.

Unopened bottles- 75

Total bottles-92

Here’s a different breakdown.

Open bottles and bottles in/on my cabinet- 61

Bottles stored elsewhere- 31

The bottles stored elsewhere total was slightly surprising. The bottles I store elsewhere includes my older bottles, one offs and higher end offerings. Over time I’ve been grabbing bottles from there to open and drink/share. As of late, I actually added 5 bottles there. Last I remember, I had between 35-40 bottles stored there. That’s why the total of 31 bottles surprised me a bit. I reckon I must have been drinking a little better than I thought. 🤔  Although, I did just post recently in the “Empty Bottle Support” thread bottles of ER 10 101, a tax stamped Old Fitz BIB, and a 2007 WLW.  😎

I can't say exact numbers, but I know what's there.  I put an exterior type locking door knob on one of the bedroom closets when the baby came along.  I have as many boxes on the floor as I can and still easily open and close the door.  I prefer to not stack boxes.  There are about half a dozen opened bottles in the cabinet in the kitchen.

One day I will inventory all my bottles.  I did start a google sheets inventory once but didn't finish it.  In addition to being incomplete, the sheet is out of date now because many bottles in that list have been consumed and are long gone.

About a year ago someone on here asked how many open bottles we have, and I estimated about 200.  So just guessing, I probably have somewhere around 1000 to 1500 total.  But I really have no idea.
