What Bourbon Are You Drinking Winter 2024/25?

As the Holidays are upon us, and 2025 races towards us, it’s time to flip the calendar over to Winter season.  I’m starting the changeover with a whiskey that is throwing me a steady diet of changeups that have me completely off balance trying to get a bead on it.  I swear it’s different every time I drink it.  đŸ€Ș

Today the 4R OBSF is delivering a sweet candied apple over my palate, which is the first time in several sittings I’ve gotten anything “sweet” from it
Quite the enigma, this whiskey is.

Had the incredible pleasure of spending time over at Anwalt for several days this December month, in Puerto Rico.  Of course, one condition was, more or less forced upon us by Mrs. Anwalt, to reduce his whiskey stash, by drinking it. Now, since he has a collection that encompasses many bottles that I would not even dream about having (Europe is so limited in the offering for American whiskey) we got to try some amazing stuff together. Old Fitz BiB, Lux Row Double Barrel 12 year old, Lucky 7 the Proprietor, Little Book the Infinite,  and yes, even GTS, and that was just one evening! All very good, some great. The phenomenal GTS would return in another line up, in Anwalt's absence, together with a good friend and drinking buddy he has that lives close by. In that one, we had several very good ones, but early on, in that line up, we blinded WLW and GTS. Both amazing, but that night, the GTS won for me albeit by a hair's breadth.

Incredible to have had the opportunity to visit, and to get that kind of access to his collection. Thanks, Anwalt! Will return at some point!

Had an incredible evening of pours last night in what is now a Christmas tradition to have dinner and drinks at my favorite whiskey bar a few days before Christmas. The bar owner is a friend and really takes care of me.

Today, Gary and I finished off the last 8-or-so-ounces of a Pappy 15 from about 2011.   A keepsake bottle, too.   It has Julian's signature up one side.   I'll hang onto that empty.

A very nice Holiday pour... or several actually.

Went to the Candlelight Christmas Service earlier this evening.  Finished wrapping presents and most menu items ready for tomorrow's gathering at my son's house.  Enjoying a pour (OK two pours) of Still Austin Musician.  It is their basic straight bourbon whiskey but it is a star.  I have enjoyed several of their products but this one is a great representative of their house style.  The more I learn about this distillery, the more I like.  Of course, our own star member @WhiskeyBlender is a big part of their story.

Thanks!

Our eldest noticed how much I liked his at Thanksgiving, so he bought me a set for Christmas.

It's a "Vayu Japanese Crystal Whisky Glass" from Tsukiglass.
