fishnbowljoe
Long but great day. Our son and his family came over for food, fun and our Xmas Eve gift exchange. Mainly for the grandkids, but… My son and his wife never cease to amaze me at Xmas time. Semi-gag gifts relating to the movie “A Christmas Story”, “Despicable Me”, “Minions” or other such stuff. He’s carrying on the tradition. My wife and I dd the same to her father. Re:the leg lamp in one of the pics below. My BIB blend tasted only so-so, so I said screw it and decided to have a pour of our Straight Bourbon HHSS SB BP. Yeah, that’s more like it. Oh, my dil went to let their dogs out. She decided to bring them over for a visit. The golden retriever is Harper. (Harper Rose) She’s been a part of the family for almost 7 years. The puppy is their new addition. She just joined the family a couple of weeks ago. Her name is P K. (Penny Kay) She’s half GS and half husky. Cheers and Merry Xmas to everyone!

Yes, sure did! We had a drinking afternoon with another friend of Anwalt, and they arranged local food. We had a wonderful time!

Richnimrod
Gary and I are working through the last half of a Booker's 30th Anniversary. While I've liked every Booker's I've tried; this one, the 25th Anniversary, and Toogie's Invitation all seem (to my taste buddies) a little better overall, and coincidentally these three seem similar to one another. Merry Christmas!

There has always been something magical and serene for me to sit quietly with the tree at midnight as Christmas Eve rolls into Christmas Day. I feel like this picture might come close to capturing how that feels.

I'm no BTAC expert nor rye whiskey historian by any means, but this has immediately become my favorite rye whiskey bottle I own ... and it's not particularly close. By memory it absolutely measures up to the vatted Saz 18 and Van Winkle Rye whiskies I tasted when I first got into this journey years ago. Before, I was really looking forward to scoring this year's GTS, but now I couldn't be happier than getting this Sazerac. I feel like I hit the BTAC jackpot.
bayouredd
Had a couple of these to polish off the bottle, Christmas Eve... Christmas Day from the youngest. My 1st of Lux Row, anything and quite good even at 10:30 in the morn... My eldest showing up today with 3 grandkids and a S-I-L that will officially help with the "serious drinking".

Not because of the price or the bottle but I couldn't read the proof. I didn't have my readers with me so I couldn't make out any of the information on the label. I wish I had thought to check SB.com for reviews. If I had, I would have probably walked out with it. Did you say it was good at 10:30 in the morning? That takes "day drinking" to a different level even for the holidays. I assume just a quick taste to give it a try. I get it. Just curious, what is the proof and age of the bottle you have? This ends up being a nice gift from my youngest. When I asked why he picked it, he said because you had nothing like this! My bottle looks to have a 4yr rye & a 5yr wheat barrel though I can't find the actual dump date. The wheat barrel seems to have softened it up nicely, especially for a 115 proofer. Quite surprising as it does have a bit of grain taste though not bad as it is quite flavorful. P.S. Yep, 10:30 was a go, but just a tad. Dipped a bit more later and still find it a worthy buy...

bayouredd
The "Lineup" for all involved... Nothing over the top, great, but not a bad bottle in the bunch. The ECBP 922 & KC18 seem to be tops Chattanooga Whiskey Founders & Remus Repeal VIII quite popular 1st timers like the Little Book & Lux Row hold their own And the ol' favorite KC12 seems to have the most important role as a palate cleanser. It resets the taste buds to a classic bourbon flavor
aquavite
If I can find it, one of the ECBPs C924 or B524. I just have to go shopping, I guess.

Jazzhead
Merry Christmas to the good bunch here at SB! We just got back from our annual tradition of reuniting most of Mrs. Jazz' siblings (and their spouses) for Christmas in California. She's one of eight kids, and the only one who came east. This year we hosted them at a resort in Palm Springs and I spent Christmas morning hiking at the nearby Indian Canyon. The Mexican feast was delicious, and I contributed 1792 Full Proof to help lubricate the stories. I'm back home and sipping a Still Austin Cask Strength as I savor the Eagles' victory over some team from Texas.
markandrex
The family is all safely back home. It is just the wife and I relaxing before she does her final two days with her current employer before “retirement”. She has already been talking to several places so I don’t thin’ she will be retired for long. Her call. WTRB in the glass for the evening.
fishnbowljoe
Once again I’m having a couple of pours of Blanton’s. There’s a pretty good chance this bottle won’t make it to see the New Year. Oh well. Cheers y’all.
smokinjoe
After dipping into a plethora of some of my very best whiskies this Holiday Season, it has come time to begin to re-visit more of my standard pours… What…Differences? Who am I kidding…How do I know? 3 reasons. A) My standard pours have been hit all along the way this Season… 2) Most of the time, my standards are very close to my very good whiskies. And… D) WT 101 crushes most of my very goods, most of the time… Edited December 30, 2024 by smokinjoe
