Backwards distilling bourbon. Store pick (liquor shed) 9 year, 120 proof. This distillery is local but I never liked any of their whiskeys. This stuff, on the other hand is phenomenal!!!

Every New Year’s Eve since 2015 I would have a drink of the 1998 Russell reserve. I finished that bottle last year. So I opened a new bottle tonight that I will only drink on New Year’s Eve. An oval 12 year Elijah Craig. This is the last bottle I have of this. It is so delicious. I’m so glad I opened it and enjoying it on our New Year’s eve. Hope everyone has a great new year.

At a neighbor”s place last night.  About 50 people in one of the nicest stables I’ve ever been in.  A really nice catered evening with top a flight bar (worked through a PVW vertical  with some BTAC near midnight).  We brought in 2025 at a bonfire in the field.

Enjoying a New Year's sip of Calumet Farm 8 year small batch,  a bottle my son gave me for Christmas.   Absolutely delicious; this is Barton's superb juice at 8 years of age and the perfect proof to go with this chicken pot pie.

I

Its a new year,  life is good.

Yesterday, I hauled down the 4-R 130th Anniversary SmBLE from back in the day.    I'd rarely hit this one over the years, saving it for "special occasions" dontcha know?   My SiL and I put a dent in the last half of it in honor of New Year's Eve.

I'd always told myself that the 125th was a teensy bit closer to perfection; but, that's looooong gone, and this one ain't.    This is such a complex-yet-refined pour.  WOW!   Happy New Year to . . . ME!  ...And, my SiL.

Yes, all good.  It happened 1 block from our hotel, but thankfully we were back long before the incident.  Terrible situation.

Had the incredible pleasure of spending time over at Anwalt for several days this December month, in Puerto Rico.  Of course, one condition was, more or less forced upon us by Mrs. Anwalt, to reduce his whiskey stash, by drinking it. Now, since he has a collection that encompasses many bottles that I would not even dream about having (Europe is so limited in the offering for American whiskey) we got to try some amazing stuff together. Old Fitz BiB, Lux Row Double Barrel 12 year old, Lucky 7 the Proprietor, Little Book the Infinite,  and yes, even GTS, and that was just one evening! All very good, some great. The phenomenal GTS would return in another line up, in Anwalt's absence, together with a good friend and drinking buddy he has that lives close by. In that one, we had several very good ones, but early on, in that line up, we blinded WLW and GTS. Both amazing, but that night, the GTS won for me albeit by a hair's breadth.

Incredible to have had the opportunity to visit, and to get that kind of access to his collection. Thanks, Anwalt! Will return at some point!

Obree, it was a pleasure having you. You and Mrs Obree were an absolute pleasure to host. I appreciated both your muling and your great nose. And just plain fun to hang with.

And the stroopwaffles!

Still Austin, WT01 70th, OE7 BP over the past few days.  OE7 is the clear winner.  WT101 would be 3rd on my list.

It looks like the glass to decanter equilibrium is off. This means you need another pour from the decanter to make the bourbon universe right. Might as well empty the decanter to complete your mission. Otherwise,  the earth might be destroyed by a Supernova.  Mankind's existence depends on you.

Based on the Chandler Wobble, the earth will be fine.

That said, I may be willing to take another pour to save mankind....
