Mr. Wedelroser,

You have inspired me to crack open a 2016 SmBLE.  I have been sipping on some recent 100 proof single barrels and older gold neck SBBS.

Love the  4R.

Cheers

It was an interesting situation for sure.  Kudos to you for opening that bottle.  Personally, it would be a tough bottle to crack open for me.  I'm not a collector nor a hoarder, but that bottle seems like it would almost be better closed than it would be a drinker. But eventually I guess my curiosity would make me want to open it and taste it, so I definitely understand.   How does it taste?  ... like diluted regular MM I assume?

It’s really nice, very drinkable since most of my pours are in the 100-105 range (sometimes diluted to that range).

It’s been so long that the novelty of the bottle has worn off. I’m kind of getting that way with most of my collection - time to start consuming instead of collecting

Rebel Cask Strength store pick my local monger convinced me to try after I had mentioned I approved of his last Knob Creek pick.  I could swear this is Larceny Barrel Proof in a different bottle.  I will return to this another night and see if my impressions change.

Sitting down with PVW15 on a day of biblical rains here is KY.  Storms and rains are expected to continue until tomorrow about 12pm on Sunday.

My impression was that the Rebel Yell 10 year single barrels were made by Heaven Hill.  I'm not sure about the newer younger Rebel CS 5-6 year juice however.

You can’t go wrong with the 2016. I really enjoyed my bottle. It never disappointed.
Alas, it is gone. I do believe I have a backup, I hope so anyway.

Hail to The Cult

Cheers

Started with some Stagg 22a but it was just a hot mess for me last night. I compared it to a sip of Benchmark FP and the latter was better but still not hitting it so I had a couple of pours from my blend of 60% Eagle Rare and 40% BM FP and that worked.

Cool.  What’s the story behind the distillery and whiskey?

They are NDP. From what I know it’s 3 buddies who had a knack for picking good barrels and they turned it into a business.

I am nowhere near an expert. But it tastes good and it’s sold at a fair price.

Are you mixing or just have the next batter up in the On-Deck circle???  Just wondering if there's a new mix "in the mix"?   🤩

it was more like the JR wasn’t quite satisfying what I was wanting taste-wise and I reached for the  big dog.

Remember when MM cut its ABV down to 42% and everyone got bent out of shape and they quickly changed it back to 45%? I bought one of those 42% bottles years ago and found it in the back of the bunker just the other day. It's a novelty for sure, but not worth the space at this point, so its being consumed quite quickly...

Consumed, the key word here...

Didn't have the SFTB, but did the filets yesterday, with a RR Pick or ET. Can't remember which but had both just the same...

Finally got this the Smokeye in.

It is good. Young, but not obnoxiously so. Sweet, oh so sweet. But more oak and complexity than I expected for a five year. Intense, better in little sippy sips, drank below the 134 proof. Great mouthfeel & viscosity. I ordered several more from K&L last night. 80 bucks + shipping. I've gotten to buying wine from them (especially 2021 Cabs), so the shipping isn't too bad. I ship to my daughter in NC, shipping to PR is Not Recommended.

A Stagg Killer, as touted in some quarters? Not if the Stagg in question is GTS. But I did like it more than most of the Stagg Jr's I've tried.

Well, that Britney Spears song had the name for a reason..."Oops, I Did It Again".

Gonna let it sit for 30+ minutes and see what happens.

I'm only gonna have about 2" from this snow, but my buddy in southern MO is supposed to get about a foot or so. I'm having some Rare Breed while sitting by the fire this evening now that the kids are in bed.

After a bit of an absence, the Weller Whore in me resurfaced tonight. 😌 I had a heathy pour of Weller SR. Last of the bottle. I followed that up with a nice pour of Weller 12. Also the last of the bottle. Hmmmmm. 🧐

I believe I have stated it before, but love these. $80 for a Stagg adjacent that seems to be readily available. Really like the weight of the topper too. Cheers!
