If it is any indication, I bet your pick is delicious.
IamMatt
Drinking a couple of my blends tonight. Killed a bottle of 60% Eagle Rare/40% Benchmark FP and moving on to a bottle of 60% Knob Creek 9, 20% Old Forester 100, and 20% Benchmark FP. If I'm not careful, I'll kill that one too. I've learned that they need to sit in the bottle for several months to reach their peak.

IMHO, the person/people now responsible for picking the barrels for ETL have done Mr. Lee proud. Vegetal earthyness, slightly spicy, a hint of oak, and not really any smoke to speak of. I may have overpaid a bit for this bottle, but I ain’t complainin’. Hopefully I can make it last for a while.

Joe, Is that RHF one you've been saving a long time, or have those started to show up in Chicagoland.

kcgumbohead
I also finished a sample a friend sent me of Westland Whiskey finished in a cider cask. I know ZERO about it beyond that, mashbill, proof, age....???? It may not even be bourbon in which case apologies for the thread drift. I don't even know if they are a distillery or NDP. The experience was certainly interesting. There was no escaping the cider finish. I have heard so many times among you all on here about how this bottle or that was enhanced or overpowered by the finishing and what a skill and balancing act it is to get it right. I have very few experiences with finishes and I guess the ones I've tried have all been good as none overwhelmed the base spirit . Those other claims always made me wonder what that must taste like....well, I wonder no more. I have had several hard ciders ( my go to when out and about and the beer list is not to my liking) and I could have mistaken this for one of those had I not seen the word "whiskey" on the label. Glad to have experienced it, followed it with the above mentioned WTRB.

Not to be confused with Westward Whiskey which is a single malt distillery based in Portland, OR.

I never would have guessed.

smokinjoe
I haven’t seen Early Times in my area for at least a year. Used to be tons of it. Picked it up today, and sipping it now. Still lists DSP 354 as the distiller. Edited February 21 by smokinjoe
