What Bourbon Are You Drinking Winter 2024/25?

Errrr......thanks!    Isn't that a cool glass?   Our son gifted me a set at Christmas after I raided his bar,  drank his Scotch and told him that I really like the glass.    I also told him that I really liked the 25 year Macallan in the glass,  but I didn't see a bottle of that under the Christmas tree....

Yep, it’s awesome!  But, I’m afraid I’d be tempted to see how far I could throw it with the great grip it must have from the cut glass design! 🤣. Kinda like the Buffalo Trace raised Buffalo glass…I really want to chuck one of those from time to time, when I’m channeling my inner Joe Namath…🤪

Ahhh!   That's the REAL Baker's!   I have one currently open and (I believe) only one in the bunker.   My open one has been "rationed" carefully for about 2-years and is around half full.   I assume you've enjoyed the hell out of that bottle, and will continue to do so until it's ceremonially sent on it's final journey.   Slainte'!

That BT glass is one of my favorites.   I don't think that they sell them anymore at the distillery......

This week at the plastic factory gots me feeling I’ve been rode hard and put away wet on this Friday.  Going into a Bulleit Bottled In Bond.  Reports here on SB have been positive.  Yeah, whatever.  But, I concur 100+%. It is very, very, good.  Exceptional, even.

This bottle of bourbon is proof that we don't fully appreciate what we have until it's gone.  Baker's Small Batch wasn't a fast seller when it was on the shelves, ... but at least some here on SB generally appreciated it.

I miss that stuff.

$45 for a nice 7 year blend at a nice proof.

It was quite the night at our monthly bourbon night. That 8 year WT and 14 year SS wheat were great. The chocolate WR was very unique.

Well I guess we now have a new house profile to discover and get familiar with.

Just poured this one for a pre-meal bourbon.   I received this bottle as a gift for my birthday and I keep coming back to it every 2-3 weeks to see if my palate has changed, but I do not enjoy it.

I know that there are many that are fans of Bakers, but Beam products in general just don’t do it for me.

After two 12 hour workdays in a row, tonight's reward is a healthy pour of store pick Rebel Cask Strength with a few small cubes.  It really holds up to a slight dilution, and is quite tasty when chilled.

P.S.  If my NCAA basketball tournament bracket falls flat on its face, I can always blame it on the 126 proof influence.

It's really unfortunate that Beam decided to call that bottle "Baker's" ... because it's not.   My understand is that it's the Old Granddad / Basil Hayden mash bill.   This is what happens when you let the bean counters in a corporation destroy a brand.

It’s been a long tough week +. I’m having pours from a pretty good triumvirate tonight. I’ve had pours of my ETL and Blanton’s recently, but it’s been quite a few years since I last had a pour of RHF. To be honest, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I had a pour of it. I needn’t have worried. It was purty darned good. 😋

As an addendum here, and why I wasn’t sure what to expect when I had a pour of my RHF, the last bottles of RHF I had were private selections from Kahn’s Fine Wine & Spirits in Indianapolis, and Julio’s Liquors n Westborough Massachusetts. 🙂

Decided to have some fun on the Spring equinox and pull out a line up of wheaters:

Man that embossed wheat Weller 12 is smooth and easy drinking.  I hate to admit it but I have to agree with Clueby; The BBC wheated bourbon tastes alot like current Weller antique.  My favorite of the three is the full Proof.

Cheers and enjoy the Spring fellas!

VWIndy,

I am bourbon curious. Is that original liquid in the W12 squat btl or is it a "decanter" btl for later releases of W12?

I've seen other members have Weller squat btls and wondered if they reuse it for today's liquids or they just multiply in the bunker. 🤷‍♂️ I don't have any of those magic btls.

I am not as long in the tooth with bourbon as some but I've never seen one in the wild.

As for what I am drinking when I head out to the local steakhouse, Tanqueray Martini with 3 olives stuffed with blue cheese, slightly dusted. I know it is not bourbon but I don't make cocktails, just buy them and drink them.

A warm Spring day here.  The grass is greening up and the sound of lawn mowers and leaf blowers filled the air.  I grilled some “fat” burgers for dinner and sat on the deck with some ER and enjoyed the smell of Spring.

As for the decanter aspect of others, I cannot speak.  I do use an old WTKS fantail bottle for that very purpose.

The squat bottle style was about 10 years ago, so the likelihood of finding one are slim.

That is what I thought about finding a squat btl as well. Wasn't sure about how long ago they were discontinued. A lil before my reintroduction to bourbon. A story for another time.

I did have the opportunity to buy a few btls of the WTKS fan tail btl but the tater store wanted 100$ per, easy pass.

To each his own of course, but to me it would be poor form to pass off a different liquid in an old dusty bottle that still has the label.  Frowned upon.  On the other hand, some of us might strip off a label and re-use a bottle as a decanter.  I've done that with the newer Old Fitz "BiB decanter" bottle, plus many 375ml bottles that I find handy for decanting home blends.
