JakeySnakes
Since it is a new year - figured I'd start a new topic. Cheers to the empty bottles that get us through 2025. The OGDs were good as always, the MM101 didn't last long through the holiday season, and the 1792 FP was a store pick that was delicious. Hoping to grab another next time I pass by that store.
VWIndy
I am going to miss this one. Only had the one bottle and I understand it is no longer sold:{
Skinsfan1311
I still prefer the cheaper 6 year, but will probably replace this one if I see it on sale...

If true, that sucks because it's probably my favorite bottle in the 1792 line, maybe along with the "Single Barrel" beige neckband bottles.
0895
Finishing off my 2018 CYPB. All good things come to an end. If I find another someday at a reasonable price I’ll probably pick it up, otherwise some of the other expressions are arguably bettter. Now to finish that Christmas candle…

IMHO, I think my Weller Blend is just slightly better than their CYPB. The powers that be at BT once had my Weller Blend analyzed by their lab. They said my Weller Blend was good, but not quite up to the quality of their CYPB. Phhhhhht! Cheers!

FWIW, I don't doubt that for one second. But to be fair, I've never tasted your Weller Blend. Cheers Joe!!!

Yeah that's probably right, and I don't think I've ever done a direct sbs with those two. OWA gets all the love and for me CYPB is underappreciated and gets a lot of unwarranted hate (mostly from newbies). All I know is sometimes (for me) OWA has a cinnamon forward note, ... but in comparison every single time I had a pour from my last bottle of CYPB, it was just right. Side note: is CYPB at 8 years in the barrel, older whiskey than OWA and WFP? I assume so but I could be wrong. I think CYPB is the best balanced of the regular Weller line. That's probably what I should have said.
LW25
Killed off a Makers Mark Heart Release last night. It was a fine bottle, but didn't wow me in any way. This is another data point that indicates to me that I'm more a rye fan than a wheater.

That's probably what I should have said. The cinnamon note is exactly what I’m missing from cypb and why I like the OWA more. Agree on the balance, and no hate here. It’s still a solid pour. This whole conversation is about hairsplitting though. Not like there’s any bad Weller out there.

Shortly after OWA lost the age statement, it also went missing locally. I made a run to Louisville and found several bottles. I was totally underwhelmed with that batch - no complexity, tasted like vodka flavored with a little brown sugar. Also was offered but passed on several WSR paper label 1.75L @ $35 around the same time. The WSR of that era had an apple core taste in the finish I could not abide. But these cases are outliers. For what it's worth, my open bottle of WSiB (the first year it was released) is absolutely outstanding. It's comparable to Old Rip in taste quality. I hear quite a bit of noise/hate about Weller SiB on social media, but compared to my personal experience (admittedly anecdotal) that's false. Now, of course I understand the challenges/limitations of single barrels, ... I have 2 other orange WSiB from more recent vintage that I have not opened/tried yet, so my mind is open ... but I'm just here to say that there ARE some great single barrels out there. Personally I feel 80 percent of the hate out there for WSiB is due more to the secondary pricing and BT's crappy false supply limits.... I feel it's a great $60 bottle. Don't evaluate it like it's PVW15 ....
LCWoody
I cannot wait to try a 9 & 10y old version of this. They are doing it right, really good bourbon.

I had very high expectations admittedly but it was verging on bad...not just not great. @GeeTen can attest to that particular bottle/barrel of WSiB. I was even warned before I tried it but since I had never tried one before I had to. I have since had other bottles/barrels that were good to very good especially at the retail value.

For me, the 8 is on the verge of having too much wood influence. I'm not sure I'll look forward to the same whiskey at 9 or 10 years.
