Yes..the orange label WSiB. I had very high expectations admittedly but it was verging on bad...not just not great. @GeeTen can attest to that particular bottle/barrel of WSiB.  I was even warned before I tried it but since I had never tried one before I had to.  I have since had other bottles/barrels that were good to very good especially at the retail value.

Well that's disappointing for sure.  Makes me wonder what kind of luck I'll have with my unopened bottles.

Are you talking about the orange label Weller Single Barrel?

For what it's worth, my open bottle of WSiB (the first year it was released) is absolutely outstanding.  It's comparable to Old Rip in taste quality.    I hear quite a bit of noise/hate about Weller SiB on social media, but compared to my personal experience (admittedly anecdotal) that's false.

Now, of course I understand the challenges/limitations of single barrels, ... I have 2 other orange WSiB from more recent vintage that I have not opened/tried yet, so my mind is open ... but I'm just here to say that there ARE some great single barrels out there.

Personally I feel 80 percent of the hate out there for WSiB is due more to the secondary pricing and BT's crappy false supply limits....

I feel it's a great $60 bottle.  Don't evaluate it like it's PVW15 ....

Yes,

Every one I've tried has been absolutely meh, to the point that I probably wouldn't even buy a bottle of the stuff to drink if I ever found it.

IIRC WSR beat the orange label in the full Weller lineup tasting that Clueby and I did with our significant others.

I think even the Kosher wheat was better.

That's too bad.  Mine is stellar.  Compares to Old Rip and PVW15.

I cannot wait to try a 9 & 10y old version of this. They are doing it right, really good bourbon.

Same.

They seemingly can do no wrong at that distillery.

Okay, not as flashy as the good stuff posted here of late, but I bought this a long time ago. FWIW.

Clearing out some low bottles.  I really liked this one and will miss it.  Overpriced at $99 for 6 year whiskey, but being a blend of their straight wheat whiskey and their wheated bourbon, I suppose it's unique enough to almost justify the price.  I would buy it again if the price dropped to $70.

whoops… messed up and put this in last year’s thread.  That can be deleted from 2024 if the mods would like.

Finished off an OESQ barrel pick I helped with about 5 1/2 years ago.  Fun memories.

For all the people who preach about this and that recipe, it doesn’t matter.  OESQ was (in my mind) one of my least favorite recipes at the time we picked this one blind.  It really opened my eyes as to how the specific mash run, warehouse location, and luck of the single barrel play into everything.

I consider myself fortunate to get to go along for a 4R barrel pick, as I know it’s probably a bucket list experience for many enthusiasts.

Used the last of the SA syrup on some French toast this morning. The FT was made with a little BT Bourbon Cream in the egg mixture. I guess this should have gone in the "What's On The Menu" thread. 🤷‍♂️

We finished this 8yr 4m Baker's over the weekend. As much as I like it, and I do very much like it, I can't see replacing at around $70 when KC 9 is far cheaper,  and to my palate, very much on par with the flavor profile.

Like I mentioned in another thread, I had too many bottles open. I’ve been working down the lower fill ones. All except the MM will be going to the brown bin. The MM has already been refilled from a newly opened handle. Now that I have a few spots open on my shelf, I have to figure out what to open. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Cheers!

Damn Joe!   At this rate, you might fill up your recycle container (green/blue/brown color?)

You seem to have a very nice selection of some older bottles.  Your stash must be stellar.  Please post in show us your stash.

I like the vintage bourbon porn myself;}

Cheers

Thanks VWIndy!

Not sure if I want to laugh or cry. I say that with a grin on my face. I once had a pretty decent bunker, with 325-350 bottles on a routine basis, but I have actually been on a bunker-beatdown for at least the last 5 years. Of the remaining lot (125ish bottles), only a few of the most laudable remain. I have a few old-style bottles of Weller 12 and Old Forester BIB left, and a handful of others. My collection of Belgian ales is larger!

I will confess that I also like the vintage bourbon porn that we see now and then.

I think the "show us your stash" thread went inactive due to lack of activity.  Someone needs to start up a new one!

As a fan of the ET mashbill, this was quite enjoyable.  At the price point, I struggle a bit with buying another bottle.

Still burning through the bunker. I have one more PHC after this one from 2011. I remember thinking that as the price was higher than $50, it had to be worth the price. It was.

I believe that is the first generation KCSB label.  Little silver tag makes it even better.  👍

That PH is one of all time favorite whiskies.   You have my sympathy at the passing of this bottle.   😪😟🥹

You (and I) are unlikely to see its equal again... particularly at any sort of reasonable price, or reasonable chance of acquiring it.

By better, do you mean that the whiskey is better, or the the bottle design?  I have one from when we visited the distillery in 2017.   It happened to be that the KCSB  was on the bottling line they let us "bottle our own"    I haven't cracked it yet, but plan too...
