I was surprised at the prices but after reading your reply, it makes sense why some of those prices were so shocking. Thank you both, well all 3 of you actually, for your feedback on the store, distiller( or bottler) and whiskey. You're very welcome MSB. I should probably clarify my previous comment, about taking recommendations with a grain of salt. I wasn't talking about Starlight whiskey at all, ... I was only talking about social media recommendations (Facebook bourbon groups) which are notorious for questionable recommendations. I assume that's why you are here on SB instead of Facebook! :- )

I have lexdyslia and I prolly misinterpreted what you originally wrote and that does NOT change my appreciation for your input. As you stated, I am here for the straight forwardness you all exhibit with your knowledge, patience ( or lack of patience when appropriate, LOL), humor, banter, respect of others, and love of all things whiskey. ( I am prolly leaving some other accolades out, but that is the gin forgetting not me). And you be correct, I am not on Facebook. Dabbled in some fishing forums but have lost interest in those over the yrs. But have lost no interest in fishing. I still love to "flail" with a fly rod. As a matter of fact, I make a trip to ID to swing flies for steelhead every dyr and hope to until I can not.

I absolutely love good MGP by the way, and if I didn't already have a lot of it on hand, I would have already pulled the trigger on one of those Starlights. I admire your passion for fishing. I grew up fishing for largemouth bass and catfish from farm ponds and lakes as a kid, but I never was exposed to fly fishing. Fly fishing in a mountain stream looks like so much fun and and challenging!
Kepler
After a couple of weeks away from drinking (I'm trying to shed a few pounds and I've lost 15 lbs so far) ...I really enjoyed tonight's "fRYEday" splurge as a "reward" for some positive progress Tonight I had these straight rye whiskies, and I'm ranking them in order of tonight's taste preference: 1. 2024 Saz 18 yr. In one word, the 2024 release is "sublime" (I haven't found a better term so far). 2024 is legit ... and I hope BT can keep it up moving forward. If they do, then we can say Saz18 is finally back. 2. 2017 THH (so good) 3. 2020 THH (still a pretty good year for THH but the '17 definitely topped it tonight) 4. Redemption 10 yr BP rye. Great MGP/Indiana rye. Very good way to finish out the evening. Happy fRYEday!

Fly fishing in a mountain stream looks like so much fun and and challenging! I too like MGP. The ryes definitely can be great. I am not huge on ryes but I do find some to be right in my wheelhouse. I do try to expand on ryes but it takes high praise from friends or SBer's for me to purchase unless it is something from a distiller I respect. Hence why I purchased the Michter's BS last wk. Don't mean to rub this in anyone's face, but Pikesville Rye is awesome and so available around me for about 55ish$ and I LOVE IT. I respect all fishing, dunking worms, throwing metal or even snagging, just as long as it is legal and you respect the fish and fishery. As is everything in life. Do what you want as long as it does not affect, harm me(or others) or violate the laws of nature and "most" laws of man, or if you are spiritual, the laws of your God. ENJOY YOURSELF AND RESPECT ALL. As for fishing mountain streams, definitely fun, challenging, not so much(imo) other than the tight quarters you are in. The solitude makes the fishing in the high country for me. So pristine and therapeutic. I am jealous of your fishing for bass. CO is trout country. To have the opportunities that I think.you had in TX fishing for bass, that is what I think is so cool. Now I will admit that I would have tried the fly rod for them. I guess we want what we don't have.

0895
End of the road for this rye. These were such fantastic releases. I was lucky at the time (2017-19) to have a Canadian connection that helped me out. Thankfully there’s a few more stashed away for the future. This is the first release (2017, 12y, 110p).

Never seen or heard of it. Who is Prav Saraff? Is this a MGP rye? Just saw that the btl stated distilled at Huber's Farm. My bad. Do they do bourbon as well? MSB, while I can't speak to that specific SB, I can speak on my own bottle as well as my experiences with Starlight. A couple three years or so back, they were one of the new darlings on the whiskey scene. They have made their bones primarily on finishes. Starlight is a family farm/winery/distillery about 20 minutes over the bridge from Louisville in southern IN. I went there a few years ago at about the peak of their shiny new toy era. The place is legit, they have been farming that site for generations and are experienced farmers and vintners, the move into distilling was an extension of the established family business. The folks I met there were very nice and there were several bourbons both finished and not on offer. I particularly enjoyed and purchased a brandy/cognacish finished bourbon from something called Pineau des Charents, never heard of it as its an obscure French spirit but its damn good and I'm not much for finishes. There was a bin of 375s with just a few left in it and they were the straight ryes, being a rye centric drinker I grabbed that too. To this day it remains the most RYE, rye I've ever had. All the flavors of rye bread/toast well, that's what this bottled tasted of, its long gone. I have also had a double barreled bourbon of theirs and while it was a bit too sweet for my palate, it was enjoyable and a friend of mine grabbed the bottle as he absolutely loved it. That rye is absolutely distilled at/by Starlight, is is NOT MGP. They do their own distilling, aging and bottling on site. I'll have to get back there and do the tour this time as I am a fan of their work and its a cool campus, they have an ice cream shop on the grounds!! and I need some more rye!! If you see any of their stuff, give it a shot as they have now been at this for several years and between the straights and their myriad finishes, I'm sure you'll find something you like. Slainte!, Kevin.
kcgumbohead
Leipers fork RYE (distillery only) the bourbon and TN whiskey can be found year round. Well damn, I have just found another distillery I REALLY like. I have the rye but I am going to have to now get the others. BEST mouthfeel of anything I have ever had. These folks are doing something special there in Franklin TN. Yeah its a damn nice rye, finish for days!!

Slainte!, Kevin. I appreciate your input. Love the info and respect the "farm to sip" brand they are trying to do. And from you and others here, this brand seems to be working. I really dig that they sell 375ml btls at the distillery. I wish we could get more of that kind of sampling. I know cost per ounce goes up with smaller btls but it is easier on the wallet when trying new liquids from different distilleries. I will keep an eye out for this companies products. Thanks Kevin!
