Brown forman does use a yeast that ranges from banana bread to sweet tarts, which may compliment/ mask the heavy rye influence. But don't be fooled the sib rye is very rye. I suspect you are right on in your assessment. I disliked the Bonded Rye, and while a Single Barrel will take on a different flavor profile, I would submit the mash bill is essentially the same. To your point that means it will be very rye forward. If that is the case, it would only be doable for me in an old fashioned or Manhattan. The JDSBBP rye is sooooo much better than the bonded version. It's more complex, spicier, but sweeter. It may be a rye that you enjoy. It drinks below its proof. As luck would have it, I was able to sample the single barrel rye from Jack Daniel’s last night at a bar in San Diego. Crazy the prices they were charging for bourbons, that aside I did indeed enjoy the single barrel rye. I am very glad I was able to find it and more so that I enjoyed it. On a similar note, my 10 year old knows more about bourbon than my wife does. He is very observant and often joins me on my liquor store hunts.
