I think it’s National Margarita Day. I’ve been making these lately because they’re just so much fun. Equal parts mezcal,

tequila, cointreau, and lime juice. Used an ounce here but may have held an extra tick on the mezcal because I’m all about the smoke. 🤣 A dollop of agave syrup in the shaker to round out the edges.

Craving a crunchy taco so that’s next on the docket.

I'm having the last of a small 'jam-jar' of a particular cocktail that my baby boy, Gary left me from the holidays.   It's mainly fig-infused-Bourbon (With actual little figs in it for garnish: Nice!) and walnut bitters.   There may be other ingredients intended or included; but, you get the idea with the Bourbon, figs and walnut bitters.

I have no idea what it's called.   I'll call it The Figgy-Wiggy, just for laffs.   I think Gary probably told me what Bourbon he used; but, I didn't commit that to memory.   He usually experiments with HH 6-yr. BiB.

Anyway, it's different and tasty.   I like it!   Thanx Gary!!!

Pre meal mezcal Negroni. Possibly my favorite cocktail.

Agree, for a pre-meal cocktail especially.

Hard to beat a good Negroni.  👍

Spring sprung yesterday.  Bright sunshine, mid 70s and a cool breeze had me itching for a "long grill".  Seared a pork tenderloin over charcoal and a mix of hickory and apple wood then cradled in foil with seasoned onions and bell peppers and moved to cool side of grill.  Plenty of time for Old Fashioneds on the deck with the wife.

I must express my disappointment at the quality of so many "St. Patrick's Day" green drinks.  I provide cocktails to my little social group every couple of months so I said I would provide a St. Patrick's day cocktail.  One of our group doesn't drink whiskey (!!) so I figured I would just bring something green.  I have probably tried 60 different cocktails or variations in the last 7-10 days.  Below is part of one night's testing.

None are really great.  A couple are OK.  Many (culled from the internet, YouTube, etc.) are really bad.  A bunch of Redditors said the Japanese Slipper (equal parts Midori, vodka, and lemon juice) was one of the greatest cocktails ever.  I thought it was barely meh.

And adding insult to injury, I have done so much testing that I have not had any bourbon in over a week.  Oh, well, we are getting together tomorrow night so I am about out of time.

Rant mode off.

We need a Green Chartreuse expert here to provide recommendations.

Good suggestion, but one of our group doesn't like mint.   I may need new friends!

Tough crowd😉    Just make 'em something good, stick it in a green glass and call it a day!

I think that's going to be my solution.  I've created a couple of cocktails for the group that were popular but this time it has not been fun.

The Last Word. It’s green and a crowd pleaser.

Good recommendation.  Find a green garnish to really bring out the color (or cocktail glasses that have a green color stem highlight)... and that would be my choice.

I eventually settled on a sort of a twist on a Lemon Drop, which I know everyone in the group liked.  I took the traditional recipe of vodka, lemon juice, triple sec, and simple syrup and added blue curacao and Midori for color, and orange juice for both color and to balance the Midori.  I call it the Shamrock Drop.  It was a hit.

Good decision!   I'm sure it was adequately flavorful, and the color is perfection!

Thanks.  For those wondering what this "vodka" stuff is, I am pretty sure it is the result of a whiskey making mistake where white dog was distilled at 190 proof instead of 160 proof so instead of throwing it in the trash they bottled it and gave it a silly Russian name.

Oh, I was going to make Tipperary cocktails for St. Paddy's but I quickly discovered that Green Chartreuse is scarce.  Went with Hanky Panky instead so that I could use our open bottle of Fernet-Branca.  No green, no Irish whisky but delightful!0316251837.thumb.jpg.88451d8ee76d3b007256d425f7665a0e.jpg
