What bourbon did you purchase this spring season of 2025?

OGD 114 found it's way into my shopping cart Thursday (didn't think it appropriate to purchase liquor on Good Friday).  Cake frosting sweetness, kick of rye spice, and a nice Kentucky hug to finish it off.  Bonus points for throw-back pricing @ $21.99.

A local grocery store is wrapping up one of their quarterly sales.  Here's what I grabbed this time:

Wild Turkey 101 @ $18.73, Wild Turkey Rye @ $18.73, Rittenhouse Rye @ $19.48, Old Forester 100 @ $18.73, and Sazarac Rye @ $19.48.

This is how a cheapskate rolls.  🥃🤠👍

Once in a while I may purchase something more expensive, but I had really better check things out,  rationalize somehow it's worth it.

Boom, bust, glut, allocation, whatever - still plenty of great brands sitting on shelves at reasonable prices.

A minor miracle. The first time I hit Louisville & Bardstown, back in August of 2022 - over a hundred bottles.

This last trip for the Spring Bash - 2 bottles, both Bookers Reserves.

Settling down a bit, with a much greater clue as to what I like, though that is still evolving.

Mind Blowing, just wow.

Three terrific bottles. Which Nashville Barrel did you get?

Stopped again at my main liquor monger, Discount Drinks in Wyandotte, ostensibly to scoop a few more liquor boxes for my daughter & SiL who are STILL moving homes.    I did that, and noticed the tiny 'bar' was open for tastings of private pix.   I sampled another Yellowstone 6-yr. 109-pr., among several other offerings.   This one was even better than the last one from a years back (if memory serves - a dubious supposition at best, I know) - a truly fine pour.   So, I liberated one.

I wonder who is distilling for Limestone Branch.   Anybody know?  If I had to guess, it would be Beam.   The best of the offerings of Yellowstone seem (to me at least) like Knob Creek more than anything else I could name.

As a Cheap Bastard, I heartily approve...and I'm not embarrassed to say that I'm envious of those deals.

Well done!

After trying a generous buddy’s bottle last week, I couldn’t resist adding this to my collection.

This release is definitely a winner!

Oh shit.  Not another Maker's special limited release that I need to purchase?  (I have way too many already).

Has anybody compared it to the Hearts release (which I have already purchased but not opened.  Sigh.)  😀

I don’t own Hearts, but I remember it being solidly good.  It didn’t inspire me to chase it down.

Keepers impressed me enough to get one.

The 7 year Bourbon, quite good. Mature, good proof, tasty.

Made a stop at my guy’s, and found a BT Family Size, WT 8 yr, and his 4R PS OBSO.  Feeling very fortunate.

I always buy the 'wrong' Maker's Wood Finishing series.  It's a knack that I have... it just comes easy for me.:)

picked this up on a recommendation. I have had the 14, 15, 16 yr olds, and as well as the 17yr/7yr blend(small batch?).

This is very tasty. I had a sample earlier today after picking it up and then another after getting home from a going away party.

Don't think it is as good as some of the 14,15,16yr old but for the price I would be willing to grab this before those others. I feel there is some inconsistencies of the older varietals(15 & 16yr) . Take that with a grain of salt, I have had only 2 different btls of the older aged juice (15 and 16) and felt that the earlier versions were better than the most recent releases that I have had. Just my opinion. The price of the 10 yr is a lil steep but easier to swallow than the 14-16yr olds.

I will have to see how this pans out over the next couple of yrs and if it can stay consistent.  I hope so!

I can see that.  I've only had their 14 and 16, which are excellent.  From my experience with Barton bourbon, I can see 10 years old being perhaps the ideal sweet spot.  Barton is quite good at 8 years (the old 1792 Ridgemont Reserve age stated bottle) but can be over oaked at 12 years (the 1792 12 yr in my opinion) UNLESS the barrels are highly curated (I figure that's why the Calumet 14/15/16 are better than 1792 ... they are getting better barrels than run of the mill 1792 releases).

I wish 1792 would release a 9 or 10 year expression at 94 to 100 proof.

After my first of these, also a stellar 109p, I too was curious about its origin. I heard Barton and HH and having had many great release from both, it’s certainly possible. I would have pegged my 109 as a Barton release. I’ve since given up, it’s a solid mystery but some of em are so damn good. Next time you’re in Bardstown, it’s a short drive to Limestone Branch and they always have a few on offer, one of which is head and shoulders above the others. Perhaps you’ll get lucky and someone will finally admit the origin? At worst you’ll have yet another great pour and the place is quite scenic.

Some friends did a Yellowstone pick and theirs was a Heaven Hill distilled barrel (they saw the barrel head). It also makes sense as Lux Row had Heaven Hill distilling for them before they built their own place and bought Limestone Branch. I believe some picks are Limestone Branch distillate, but it is certainly possible that they have barrels from a number of other Kentucky distilleries and Barton definitely does sell off quite a few barrels (and is in Bardstown as well).
