Everything there was great - I was really pleased to try the OF BB 13 with the mutant yeast - thanks to kcgumbohead!

...

Sounds like it was a great time and some of us missed out (yet again.  Hopefully some day)

But what about the OF mutant yeast?  This is a story I haven't heard about.  The only mutant yeast story I know is about Four Roses.  I'm eager to hear about the OFBB.  I've heard over and over about how the 2013 release was the last great OFBB but I never heard it was because of a special yeast version.  Inquiring minds want to know !

I do like how you chose "Front porch batch" to celebrate your new back yard.   Too bad they don't release a "Back yard batch" ... or maybe they have already

We are still in the pre celebratory phase.

I don’t think they have a backyard batch. The closest thing would be the Lumberyard Batch. If I do use Bookers to officially celebrate I’ll probably crack my Bookers 25.

You should definitely crack your Booker's 25!  That's still the best Booker's bourbon I've ever tasted.  But I missed scoring my own bottle of that one back then by about a month. (Timing is everything in life, lol).

I have no excuse for not yet cracking the Booker's 30th however.  I need to find an excuse to remedy that.

From what I remember, it was a tasty batch. Beam had recently hiked the price but it was still easily obtainable here in MA.

Yeah....it's great, but so is the standard 101...not worth the extra $$$...

I knew that extra $20 would come with a steep grading curve!

Thanks Mal. I forgot about that one.  Bookers in CA have always been shelf turds. Even now with the price settling at $89-99 they languish on the shelves. Good for me because I always have one open.

Brain fart. I was thinking 4R and moved it to OF. But damn that BB was good!

Oh dang, I was hoping for another entertaining tale of an accidental masterpiece.  That Four Roses story of the mutant yeast as shared with the public by Jim Rutledge is perhaps my favorite story in recent bourbon history.

Good pull, thanks for finding and sharing that.  Now I remember the picture of that smoker on the label; however I didn't purchase that release.

We took advantage of a dry day and worked outside all day.  Came in and 1792 bib seemed to be the right choice for the evening.

"Dry day" ?? ... at first I thought you were referring to the kind of liquor "dry spell" that @Anwalt and myself have been referencing lately, ....
and then I realized it was you markandrex, .... and then I came to my senses.  Just razzing you! Lol 😁😉🤣

I did a blind SBS.

WT101 vs WT101 8yr

Mrs Skinsfan poured them in the other room and brought 'em out one at a time.

It would not have been blind had I seen them first as the 8 year is darker.

I have to admit that the 8 year is the better of the two, but by a nose and I still don't think it's $20.00 better than the standard...

sipping on some AAA while watching my wife prep for a party she is having tomorrow night.  My plans are the basement or upstairs by 1730.  Luckily, I am supplied on any floor of the house.

Was it the 16yr or 17yr single barrel?

The BB was the 2013 vintage.

Catching up, the past few evenings: OGD 114, Chattanooga Batch 35 Centenery cask ( finally getting a handle on this and is damn good!!).

Plus a new one from Glenns Creek. the Cuervito vivo which they can't use anymore due to a cease and desist from Jose Cuervo, whatever....the bottling is distillate formulated in conjunction with Bob Robinson former Old Crow plant superintendent to get as close as they could to the OC distilled on that site many years prior. According to Bourbon Joe, it is good but "it ain't Old Crow". I wouldn't know, but I can say it is good.

That's a trio of wildly different flavor profiles and all delicious.

Larceny, C922. Rightly hailed as quite good at the time, now forgotten and available for more or less MSRP. From such "dregs" does wonder arise.

Silly taters.

Anwalt meant to say the mutant yeast was Four Roses, not the OF BB.

This evening the choice is good old OGD 114. This is IMO, one of the best, very affordable pours out there. Love this stuff.😉
