VOB100 tonight.  Only one or two as we are debating on another house here in town to down-size into.

It is tuff looking at giving up about 1500 sq. ft.  A lot of this stuff has to go.  The lot is about 2 acres less also. 
There is a pool (much smaller, a plus), a spa and a shed (much smaller)

I have only tried the Single Barrel. It's not my favorite. A few have suggested I try the Gold variety which is considered to be notably better.

It is amazingly better. It was surprising to me what a difference ten proof points (and perhaps some barrel picking) made. I like the SFTB even more.

Some PVW15 in the glass tonight.  They came down 6k as soon as we started talking.  We are getting with our banker trying to make this work without trashing a retirement fund and getting killed on taxes.  Once we sell the existing, we will pay off the new one and have a nice profit left over.

They are not going to like our offer but see where they go.  Lots of contingencies, for them to address.

If all goes well, tomorrow we begin negotiations.

Just back from a quick biz trip, and going with Early Times BIB.  Going through this bottle and the previous ET BIB rather quickly.  It’s like WT 101 is to me, in that it has a lane it races in, and it just creams  it.  Not similar in taste to WT, but it’s similar in where it fits in my “what won’t fail me right now” category.

Before we bought our current home, we were looking at another property, making an offer.  When it came time for disclosure, it turns out there was a an old underground fuel oil tank on the property.  (There are potentially serious environmental issues with these, and the property owner is liable.)  The seller claimed "it's ok". (They had tried to keep it a secret as long as possible.)  I said, can you provide me with any paperwork that indicates that?  No answer, but assured me it's ok.  I came back with a real low ball offer, and said offer could go up with proof it's really ok.  Real estate agent came back from seller and looked like she saw a ghost, suggested we move on to other properties.

Purchased today and drinking tonight. Got it on sale for 10$ off, so why not. Iam not sure I would pay more than the sale price of it. But I do enjoy it.

This store pick Starlight Honey Barrel Bourbon is from Beverage King in Norwalk CT. It goes for about $67. 

 

It is nice if you like honey, and what a great honey flavor. Dense, rich, and floral. Really unique. 

 

My trouble with this bottle is it a more honey than bourbon. It is not balanced. If you like honey it is excellent. It is also aged in a honey barrel, not infused, so it is a legitimate (IMO) finished bourbon. It is just a lot of honey and more of a desert bourbon than anything. For that, I love it, but I'd have to be in the mood for it. 

 

Really nice bottle, but if you are looking for a balanced bourbon, it probably isn't your thing. 

 

I give it an 8/10 because of its uniqueness and price combo.

 

Update:

 

I had the opportunity to try a store pick Starlight Honey Finished Bourbon from WorldWide Wine in Connecticut. I bought it. I found it to be more balanced than the one my friend got from Beverage King. Not a ton more, but enough. I'll have to try it on a clean palette as I had some other things as well and had this last. However, I am confident I will still really enjoy it. 

 

It still is sweet and with great floral and dense honey notes. However, it is not a pure honey shot. It is slightly less sweet and you can taste the bourbon more. I do love those deep and floral honey flavors. 

 

I give it an 8.5/10.

Just got a chance to try the Still Austin Cask Strength Bourbon Whiskey last night.  Wow for a five year old whiskey it has a ton of flavor and excellent finish!

 

I am a big fan on Nancy “The Nose” Fraley.  

 

Got my eye out for the Red Corn Whiskey next.

Saw this one sitting there on a shelf yesterday at retail and had to pick it up since I haven’t seen one at retail in at least four years.  Opened it tonight and just as good as I remember.

The gf was in town this last wk so I had her pour a sbs of the WT 101 and the WT 8yr 101.  I didn't cover the glasses as suggested,  too lazy, but I did not set them next to each other and didn't really look at them for color. Just grab a glass and smell and sip. 

 

My results were a bit shocking to me. I thought there was going to be a noticeable difference as I had experienced in prior tastings (not blind). I struggled to tell the difference between the 2. 1 sip glass A was better. Next sip glass B was better and back and forth it went. Overall I wasn't that impressed with either. Sorry you Flockers but be happy there will be an extra btl(s) on the shelf for you.

 

Now I am going to put an asterisk next to this blind tasting. I feel my palate was off.  I tried a couple small sips of a couple daily regulars for me and they were not tasting to par. ( OF 100 and KC 9yr) So i will try this again at a later date. 

 

There is still a chance this Jake will grow to be a Tom and soar with the rest of the flock. IMO.

Never had Smoke Wagon before and had no idea what to expect. 

 

Had the pleasure of trying the store pick at WorldWide Wine & Spirits here in Connecticut yesterday. A bottle came home with me. 

 

It tastes a little hot for 59.6% ABV and 7 years old, but other than that, I have no complaints (and I am not one to shy away from high proof). It is pretty smooth but has a little more burn at the end than I was expecting. The mouthfeel is medium but the flavors are rich with vanilla being prominent. It has a really nice woody/oaky quality to it that is borderline similar to a toasted oak. 

 

Really nice and no regrets. 

 

Not sure if this is indicative of all the smoke wagon offerings, but this one was well worth it. 

 

8.5/10.
