New Maker's Mark Wheat Whiskey - Star Hill Farm.

I've known this was coming for more than a year now but have stayed quiet until I knew it was official which now it is.

I had the privilege of tasting this at Maker's Mark while it was in development and our group gave a lot of feedback which they were serious about taking into consideration.

I'm told it took this amount of time because they really wanted to get it right.

What I can say is that it tasted fantastic.

Very cool. Nice to learn that they switched to regenerative production for the right reasons; taste being a big one.

I am interested to try it out. I love cask strength/bottle proof whiskey and have a few wheat whiskeys I enjoy (as well as some wheated bourbons). I have a couple of bottles of the Dry Fly Wheat Whiskey (cask strength), with one being PX finished. A nice pour.

Thank you for sharing.

It's an interesting concept.  My impression is the limited release type projects from MM have been very well received.

According to the article, this will be a yearly release, every year will be different, cost 100 pound a bottle (over $100).

My prediction is these will be hard to find like the Cellar Aged or some of those wood finished deals with the cute names.

I'll have to wait for markandrex or Gee Ten to tell me how it is, not coming to my local stores in Greenwood any time soon.  🤠

How does it compare to Bernheim or Woodford Reserve wheat whiskey?

Quite a bit better if my memory is holding up. It was also at barrel proof (or close to it) which helps with flavor intensity.

The article says it will be at 114 proof. I think we were tasting at the low 120's. We also had a preview tasting of Cellar Aged the year before so I have to be careful that I'm not mixing memories between the two sessions.

I tried the Heaven Hill Heritage Collection 19yr wheat whiskey last night and was actually quite shocked by how good it was. I normally find wheat whiskey pretty boring, but this one had excellent complexity and depth of flavors. Hopefully the Star Hill Farms release is more in that vein.
