Jack Daniels 14 Year

Recommended Posts

Anybody been able to snag a JD14 yet?  MSRP looks like $150.  I've had a couple feelers out to some local shops for a couple weeks and one of the owners just messaged me back this morning that they got some in and they'd hold one for me.

Almost all of the big whiskeytubers got one gifted to them around a month ago from the distillery, and it's received pretty glowing reviews so far.  No idea of those two things are directly related 🤣  Some said it was this year's Russell's 15 and would contend for Whiskey of the Year.

I think this will be very hard to find. I’m likely going to pay the king’s ransom for this one. Last year, I was fortunate to see the 12 year on the shelf of my local Specs. I can’t imagine I’d see lightening strike twice.

Found the 10 (Batch 3) in Houston last spring.  Found the 12 (Batch 2) around Christmas, and just brought home the 14 (Batch 1).  Finally found a store where one of my little "tricks" paid off.  Owner said he was selling it for $250, and as soon as he handed me the bottle I asked him if he'd tried it yet.  He said "no, I don't think I'm going to keep/buy one for myself" so I said "let's taste this one then" and cracked it open right there on the counter and shared a taste with him.  Then he knocked the price down to 220 for me 👍

Sadly, I might be looking at secondary market for this.

The first (and only) taste of it I've had so far was in the store with the owner when I cracked it.  First impression was that I wish the 10 and 12 were also at this ~126 proof, because it is a definite tier above the 12, which is a definite tier above the 10.  Burnt sugar, cherry, and toffee notes on the palate and the nose.  Oily mouthfeel, medium to long finish.  Damn tasty.

I have plans to blind JD14 against the Russell's 15 I picked up last November, but I caught a wicked head cold a few days after purchasing the JD14 and my nose is just now returning to normal.  Will hopefully get to do that this weekend.

I'd have asked him why he was charging double what the price is supposed to be.

Guess I got a bit excited when he didn't say $600 like the other two stores I saw it in.

Wow that does make sense when you put it that way.  Actually I might have misread your post. I thought they were charging $250 for the 12 year.  The 14 year msrp is $150 I believe, so $220 is actually a pretty reasonable price for that.  Congrats on the score. 👍

I'll be making a play for the 14 or 12 in the next couple days at my local LS. I know they've arrived, now I just need to do some discreet stalking so 'inadvertenly' bump into the manager and put in the ask face to face. We'll see

Good luck!  I may have already missed it myself.  Luckily I have the 12 from last year and the 10 from the year before that.  I will have to pour some this weekend.
